Very possible move for me this year to Portland and inside the smog areas.

Down here I have slipped past smog with my fuel cell but moving up there I am unsure if I will pass. I have all of my smog stuff legal with the exception of no factory gas cap/ fuel cell. Charcoal canister and all still in tact and I can easily hook up.

We have been looking to relocate to Boise area due to an extreme hatred of California but last week an opportunity came about in Portland and I see if as my way out and into a much better place to raise my family and live more sustainably that we are able to here (I prefer to grow and harvest all of my own meat and other food products).

Anybody have any experience with this Fuel Cell issue? Just trying to have all my ducks in a row as I am headed up in 3 weeks to tour the facility and hammer out some details on if it is going to happen.

    Thanks folks!

If you're sick of California, I'm not sure Portland is the place for you. Oregon is a great state if you exclude the northwest quadrant.

While Portland may not be Boise like we wanted it still isnt San Diego which is a huge plus. As an outdoorsmen and working in the outdoors industry, SoCal is a dying area. Constant closure of public land and waterways leaves little to no recreation opportunity.

Portland would have never even been considered until i was approached last week about a good opportunity there in which I can better provide for my family and have a better way of life. The question simply is whether or not I can easily register my Taco there now.

I would look into living outside of the smog zone and commuting to work.

You could live outside of portland.... I know if you live outside of Wilsonville you do not need to get smog checks.

I wish haha. I should probably keep it somewhat under wraps for now but it is with a Retailer not a Manufacture, although i do work for one of those as well in the Paddlesports Industry.

Oh yeah we will not Live in Portland, definitely outside just have to make sure the commute is worth it. Due to being unfamiliar with the areas and just learning, I have been plugging in potential cities however every one so far has been inside the zone. Was hoping to find a Map but so far only seeing an area on DMV site to plug in address to check.

In Boise I was looking at approx 100 acres of land. In Oregon this has been cut drastically and we will likely look for 5-20 acres instead depending on the surroundings. Would like to be near hunting and fishing opportunities but I drive 2.5 hours now to hunt so that isnt a huge deal.

I do appreciate the help guys. Dont want to ditch the Taco it has been with me too long and has too much into it.

I live in Washingtion, 2009 and newer vehicles don't have smog checks. I don't know about Oregon but you might escape. If bring a vehicle to Washington from another state the only thing they check is the VIN.

There are plenty of fishing opportunities in that area, not so much for hunting.

I am a 99 so doubt I will find any exceptions anywhere unfortunately.

Good to know. Some of my contacts up there have suggested some good hunting areas for Waterfowl (thats where most my passion lies in hunting). Nobody I know up there Big Game hunts much though, could just be one of those things where I drive to see friends in Boise or something instead. After all, if I have ducks I am pretty happy.

I don't waterfowl hunt, but I did just get a yellow lab pup a couple months ago and would like to train her and get into hunting some ducks and geese.

Bowhunting is the way to go for deer and elk in this state. Almost the whole state is OTC.

Thats good to hear, I havnt bow hunted much in recent years due to lack of time and high pressure on on deer herds. Even riffle hunting has been tough with how many people are tromping around not doing things quietly and making the only possible shots long ones. Would love to get back into bow hunting and all once established.

Congrats on the pup, I will be looking for a new one when we move as my Black is pushing 8 years now and ready to be a retired couch whale instead of a bird dog.

You should check out ifish.net. it's a hunting/fishing forum for the NW.

Post a thread in the "Life in General" section asking about the smog regs, and I'm sure you will get some good info.

Thats for that info, I am actually somewhat familiar with that site so will have to do that for sure. Like I said I am all legal except the fuel cell, pretty much sucks.

    Thanks for all your help.
