So I'm in the market for some new tires and saw online that Nitto came out with the Exo Grappler AWT's recently and Toyo came out with the Open Country R/T. My question is, has anyone seen anything on these more than just a surface view? I'm not sure on the Exo Grappler release date but I know the open country R/T's is sometime in September. I like the look of the R/T's and it seems like they would fit my need since I don't off road a ton but still do every once in a while but I'm still not sure. I love my Km2's but with me being in college now I don't get to go off road much and I don't want to drop the money on such an aggressive M/t. Any thoughts or suggestions?

They both kinda just look like a highway tire with an attitude. The Exo grappler's don't really look like they'd do all that great offroad, but I bet on snowy roads they're a force to be reckoned with given the siping. The r/t's look interesting, they've got some large voids, and kind of a bizarre tread pattern, but the open area on the shoulders *should* lend itself somewhat well to dirt performance. There's no scalloping on the edges of the shoulder lugs, so side traction may not be as great as some other tires.

IMO I'd recommend looking at something more proven... Cooper ST Maxx, BFG AT, Nitto Terra Grappler, I've even heard good things about the Hankook Dynapro ATM offroad.

Toyo makes a great tire and the r/t will also come w a 45k warranty. Only thing is they are a lil on the heavy side. Look at the toyo at II's.

I don't know about the R/T but I run TOYO M/Ts that have over 30K on them without a problem. Great tire in snow mud dirt just about everything i've tried them in. So there is my .02
