I have a 2011 sport that just hit 30k miles. I just picked up 3 quarts of Lucas 80w-90 non synthetic gear oil. Is this acceptable and has anyone run this fluid? Thanks in advance Jim

I use it in my Mustang and it works well. I'm using it as a break in oil for a few thousand since I had the rear end built, After that I will probably put Amsoil in it.

I used Amsoil 75-140 Severe Gear in my TRD off road. As long as you don't have conventional posi, you should be OK.

IMO, 30K is a little early, I did mine at 60K. You will also find with SevereGear the electric locker worked a bit better, at least until the actuator gets water in it and it rusts up. Remember to use that thing on occasion or it will let you down when you need it most.

No, it's a 2011. The led uses brake assist not the diff itself

OP I can understand your confusion considering the responses here.

The oil you picked is great. You dont have a locker like another suggested and you dont have true LSD either.

    Any 80w90 is fine.

You could but your mpg may not like it much. It is however what I run in my in my 3rd. Why? Because that's what I had in my closet.

I just picked up a 2014 TRD Sport...no sticker on the rear diff...
My 2006 Prerunner had the sticker and as such, I needed to add friction modifier at changes.

Since I don't have a sticker I don't add the modifier. Is the sticker the only thing telling me I have a LSD? How can I check for certain ( I have 30K before I need the answer BTW...)

you dont have a mechanical lsd. You have simulated lsd that is performed by the brakes. With that said regular gear oil is fine.

    30k per manual/maintenance schedule.

With all the metal shavings I cleaned off my plug at 30k, I'd say 30k is too long!

I have never changed mine, bought at 60K and currently at 103K. Tried to change my rear diff fluid and could NOT budge that plug. I have 80W-90 sitting in my truck.

    What exactly are you wtfing?

On the trd offroad trucks with the factory locker they take 75w=90 correct. There used to be a sticky post on this subject but I can't find it and the search sucks on the phone
