i've had a used aftermarket horn lying in my garage for a while.... i don't even remember where i got it. anyway i decided to try and install it today and have run into some issues. it has two terminals on it. when i connect wires to them and touch one to the positive terminal of the battery and the other to the negative it honks.

i was hoping i could just cut out the stock horns and splice these in but its not that easy....

one stock horn has two wires going into one plug. the other stock horn has one wire going into one plug.... can anyone tell me how i should go about wiring these 3 stock wires into the 2 terminals i have on my aftermarket horn???

    thanks

do you have a volt meter?
One is positive and one is negative-OF COURSE.
Check to see which one is grounded to the horn frame.
If it does not have conductivity to the horn frame-then you will need BOTH WIRES.
the single wire to the horn is the POSITIVE-and has a frame ground. what colors are the wires?

I have a new horn that should be getting here today. If the weather holds off I'll do it this evening and let you know if I find anything out.

Weather didn't hold out but the horn didn't get here either. We had some flooding so I'm guessing that had something to do with it.

The connector with 3 wires, pull it off of the horn and look into the end of the connector, if you only see 2 contacts its pretty simple. The 2 wires can just be twisted together and crimped into a connector and reconnected onto the horn terminal. Comprende Amigo?

I finally got around to doing mine. I had 3 wires but they were separated. One horn had 2 wires and the other had 1. I wasn't able to trace back to see where or how they were connected. On the plug with two wires, they were both attached to the same connector. I took this to mean that all three were power and that the horn was grounded through the unpainted mounting bolt so I got the multimeter out and that was the case.

On the new horns, I attached the power to one terminal using the factory blade connector and made a jumper from the mounting bolt to the other terminal on the horn as seen in the picture below. If you have a multimeter I would highly recommended checking this as it sounds like your setup is slightly different than mine. If you don't have a multimeter I'd pick one up. I think I paid $15 for mine at Lowes a few years ago and I've used it quite a bit.

Edit: Just re-read your original post and it sounds like you have the exact same setup I do. I'd still recommend checking with a multimeter.
