Longest I've done was: Miami-DC-Raleigh-Memphis-Destin-Miami. 3k+ miles. The Blue Ridge Parkway was spectacular. Here are two photos from it:

During the summer of 1989, me and two college buddies drove a 1987 Toyota pickup (I don't think they were called "Tacomas" back then) from the suburban Detroit area up to Juneau, Alaska. Obviously, we used the AK marine ferry system for the last leg of our trip, from Prince Rupert, British Columbia Canada on.

The truck was an ugly brown, 4-speed manual (I think it was a 4-speed) 4 cylinder, with a white cap; and we used it to tow a utility trailer which carried all of our gear including a Honda Magna 500 motorcycle- probably 1,500 pounds in all, including all of our camping gear.

Because of various extended side trips along the way, we put over 12,000 miles on that truck over a four month period. Never once had a stitch of problems with it!!!

So how did three guys drive a 4-speed manual regular cab to Alaska from Michigan? We took turns riding in the bed of the truck of course.

    Ah, youth. :)

On a side note, that trip helped me figure out exactly how I intended to live the rest of my life!

Haha... The good ole days. I used to lay down on the "shelf" behind the back seat of our car and try to get the truckers to honk when I was little. How the hell we survived to adulthood is beyond me?

To date, I drove it from Omaha, Nebraska where I bought it to Atlanta, Georgia where my parents live. I brought it down when I got my orders to PCS to South Korea, it's 998 miles from address to address one way.

In January, I will be driving it from Atlanta to Anchorage when I PCS to Alaska. On that trip I will make stops in; Omaha Nebraska, Salt Lake City Utah, Yosemite National Park, San Francisco California, Seattle Washington, Vancouver British Columbia, and then it's on to Dawsons Creek British Columbia to pickup the beginning of the Alaska Highway. I plan to drive the ALCAN in its entirety. That trip will be just under 6,000 miles and should take just over 2 weeks. :D

My buddy from home is driving from Florida to San Francisco in his Taco. They left today. So that means pretty soon I'll be making a trip out to Cali one way or another!

Worse, and this is beyond comprehension or reason for many- but we actually rode our bicycles without wearing helmets back then. Ok, on my three: 1...2...3...GASP! :)

I remember when my daughter was younger she looked like a fucking race car driver with full racing seat and five point racing harness. It took a degree in astrophysics to even figure out how to install the damn thing.

I'm leaving to go back to Texas on the 25th and will likely put around 2500 miles on my truck or more before I make it back. I believe it is 1180 miles to where I am going.. 150 back to my land in Texas, 975 ish back to NC and all the driving in between to see family, etc..

so may be more like 3000 before its all said and done.. It will be a great opportunity to see what 33" tires and a 4cyl 5speed will do on the highway for long stretches

I drove my TACO from OKC to LA and Back and other points along the way along the Mother Road about 4 years ago. Had to get through some torrential rains in LA and heavy snow in the mountains if Arizona. Put about 4000 miles on her with no issues. It was a Xmas trip.

Idaho to North Carolina and back. 4,300 miles and about 70 hours. I don't really recommend it.

Multiple trips Memphis - Durango over the last 20 years, including one towing 4wheeler with my old Mazda. Tacoma is much more of a road vehicle. Usually Memphis to Amarillo (750miles) first and last day, 7-10 days in New Mexico and Colorado, total mileage generally around 3600. Camping, steam railroads, and ghost towns.
