I recently acquired a '10 Tacoma second hand from family. He mentioned a rattle in the bed and after further inspection the front right bed bolt doesn't appear to be doing its job.

As far as we can tell it is threaded in all the way (we have never been able to loosen it or tighten it). However the molded pillar part of the bed seems to be worn down leaving a gap so that the bolt is longer than the parts its holding together. (See pictures.)

Apparently the rattle wasn't noticed until the previous owner when down a pretty bumpy dirt road awhile back.

I have little to go on but I've attached pictures in hopes that some of you more experience can help me out. If I can't figure out something better I may just remove the bolt and slide some sort of redneck rubber bushing in there. (ie. Tire tread with a bolt hole through it.)

    Any advice would be appreciated.

These are two pictures from below. One with me lifting up on the bed, one with me pushing down. There is one picture of the bolt head as well with me pushing down.

Those look like pics of the shock mounts to me. Mine had a loose bed bolt when I bought it. Find the bottom of the bed bolts and hit them with a good penetrating lube like liquid wrench a couple of times a day for 2-3 days, soak them really good. They should loosen up enough to get them out one at a time and put anti-sieze on them, or you can get new ones at the dealer, but they are around $13 a piece.

The nuts are welded to a piece that attaches to the frame. In my case I broke the nut loose with the impact, and had to cut the bolt off. I got a galvanized replacement and had to go to Grainger to get a galvanized nut that would fit as Toyota dosen't sell them.

I've seen this reported somewhere else. If you can't get the bolt to tighten down more you could probably just put another washer under the bolt, it doesn't look like much of a gap. Or put a washer between the bed and the frame, that should take up the space that's worn away.

The plastic beds are pretty strong, but they don't have the abrasion resistance of steel. Movement between the surfaces will cause wear.

Thanks for the above. Hopefully my torx bit comes in this weekend and I can give it a go.
