More than likely the emissions check would be fine. You need 02, cats, and muffler to be legal in most states that have that inspection.

Before I redid the whole system, I ran the stock muffler with a shortened pipe, and it wasn't any louder.

Why would you cut the pipe over the axle? Its just funny to me I have mine cut before the axle, right after it comes out of the muffler it faces down.

After 4 years here is my take...

1)I can't get my truck inspected because it does not exit the vehicle

This is my fault for throwing away the cut off. I could of easily saved it and clamped it on for inspection, but I herped the derp on that one.

    2) Going in reverse in dusty conditions with the rear window down can get dusty... like eating a pound of sand dusty

    3) I did not notice any noise difference. I also did not cut it for this so I didn't listen or pay attention to before/after sounds.

    4) It has not been crushed into my fender and that was my intent. So far so good.

Do you have an aftermarket muffler?

If not your dumping all that hot gas on the rear axle....or at least mine would.

I cut mine after the axle because it already pointed downward there and directed the hot exhaust away from the rear end and spare tire. Now I have a custom mandrel bent exhaust pipe that exits through the rear bumper. Nothing hangs down or sticks out anywhere.
