I am looking at buying a 2012 Toyota Tacoma regular cab with 4WD, Auto transmission, 2.7 liter. It has, he says, a factor installed tow package and in most other-ways is what I am looking for.

The Skeeter weighs about 1800 plus the trailer at 500 plus tackle (50 lbs.) and 52 gallons of gas if full..330 lbs. Estimated total of 2680. The Skeeter trailer has surge brakes

I previously towed this rig for a short time with a 2.4 liter inline Tacoma manual transmission and I was underpowered. For the last 6 years I towed it with a Tacoma 3.4 L-V6 with manual. That was fine for my use and needs

I realize this wouldn't work for long trips, but for local 50 to 200 miles round trips - maybe 6 times a month and an ocasional trip to Lake Powell or Yuma, could I get away with this truck and not damage the transmission???

I believe the tow capacity on the 2.7 L is 3500 lbs. Best guess if I am too close to the tow capacity??
