I posted the same topic in the Hawaii section but I would like to ask a bigger group.

Looking at getting a 2014 and Im debating on what alarm to get. Im deciding between the factory RS3200 Plus or a Viper Smart Start. The local dealer wants $479 for the VIP RS3200 Plus. I did some research on here but nothing really answered my questions. Does anyone have the RS3200 Plus and what are your Pros and Cons? I know the Viper is a 2 way phone controlled alarm with remote start. I will never use the remote start but I do like the 2 way capability. I was quoted $579 for the Viper plus the monthly fee. Anyone have this setup? Pros, Cons?

I like that the RS3200 is a warrantied dealer installed option that is plug and play. My hesitation on the Viper is that an outside shop will have to hack into the OEM wires.

    Thanks for your input.

I dont have a system quite as extravagant as you're looking to get, but I have a basic 1 way Viper alarm on my truck, had an outside shop (Car Audio Heaven I think is what it was called) install it like 4 years ago and have never had a problem with it...

I have the viper 2way and love it. Monthly fee? Whats that about?? Thing I love the most about the viper? Remote start. And being able to just look at my remote and tell if it's locked or unlocked. As for hacking OEM wires find a shop that installs them all the time and you'll be fine.

VIPER !!!! I've had vipers on all my trucks and motorcycles for years and years, current Tacoma included. Huge feature I love: two-way cell phone app that allows remote start, temperature monitoring, arm / disarm / roll down windows / etc , and geographical location services. I can tell when the dealer takes it for a test drive, how far and fast they went, etc. I can tell if my son is "at a friend's house" or at the beach partying with his buddies (and possibly driving home drunk.....). With my video setup, I can set panic alarm off when I see someone snooping around in the back. The remote has a two mile range, good enough for a run on the beach without worrying if someone is busting my truck windows out (if I could run back fast enough to catch them, that is). When backpacking, many times I get phone reception on mountain peaks and can check on truck for peace of mind. For the islands, worked great to keep an eye on truck while fishing up the coast or hiking thru the cane fields. Remote start is awesome also for cold mainland mornings to hit defrost before getting in truck in the morning.

I think you have your answer by now....Its a Viper..one of the best sytems on the market, whether a 1 way or 2 way. with shock sensors, and glass breakage sensors...you cant go wrong...alot of us spend tens of thousands on Modifying our trucks..why not the $400-$500 to help protect it...not to mention the remote start in summer, and winters...No brainer in my eyes....

I have a two-way Viper alarm installed that I got as a gift. My friend is a professional installer and hooked me up on installation. It's nice having the two-way capabilities. The remote also has some cool features like a clock, parking meter timer, and a super easy shock sensor adjustment.

Honestly though if I had to pay for it, I wouldn't. Chances are that you won't be near enough to the car to get there before a theft or hit and run occur. The alarm sounding will let people near by know somethings happening and they'll hopefully see it.

Just another satisfied Viper owner chiming in. I've got the 5204 in my truck, had it coming up on 2 years now. My only gripe so far is with battery life on the remotes as they're touchy but if you have a different remote it should not be an issue.

Almost all major brands of car alarms are made by the same company, Directed electronics.
