My friend wants me to drive up to Vancouver BC with him (from Bay Area, California) to pickup a project car he left up there and needs to bring back. It's not drivable at the moment.

The plan was that we'd drive up in my Tacoma, rent a trailer before we're out of the US, and then tow it back with my truck back home.

I'd really rather not go but I'm kind of in it now.

Unless.. Are there any other options to get it down here? My friend needs to be there to see it loaded and get some tools and things he has at the shop where the car is held.

I thought perhaps he could fly up, pack it all up, fly back home and then await the car once it arrives. I imagine that would cost an arm and a leg.

I don't know of any other options but you might have a difficult time finding a company that will rent a trailer for towing the car. U-haul won't rent them unless the vehicle being towed weighs 1000 or 2000 pounds less than your rated towing capacity.

Just rent a "bobcat" trailer from your local construction equipment rental place...but the TACOMA is going to suck a lot of gas on this trip...

The car is a mini, the engine is pulled and will go in my bed. The car doesn't weigh much.

Hetkind: we don't want to drive up with the trailer; to save gas, but rent one in Washington and then just return it to another store down here.

That is going to be VERY difficult to arrange...I usually rent trailers at the local construction rental place on a day to day basis, and it doesn't take much gas to pull an empty flatbed.
