Good surfing spots from LA to Santa Barabra

Planning road trip to go up and down the coast looking for the best surfing spot and some sight seeing. Gonna start from LA county and end at Santa Barbara. Would like to drive close if not on the beach to get as close to the water as possible. If you use a certain app I can download on the iPhone to locate the spots please let me know. Thank you!!!

 

When are you going and do you longboard or shortboard?

 

Heading up to Santa Barbara in the coming weeks. I'm looking to take the scenic route so I figured there must be some nice surf spots along the coast. Using 8ft long board. Wouldn't be able to paddle my way out the water with a short board even if I tried to.
