I didn't drive my truck for a few weeks, then took it out. A/C was not cold anymore. A/C fuses and clutch were good. Took it to a friend's ship this morning, and we evacuated the system and pressurized it with nitro. Found the leak in the compressor body, right on the middle seam.

The truck is a 2011 with 46k. I think it is premature, no? Anyone else have a compressor fail/leak this early on? Sucks it is just passed warranty too, cause this is going to be a $400 bill... :(

The compressors in these trucks suck.

i flipped through the warranty, and it seems like the compressor falls under 3 year 36k warranty.

not exactly drive train, but it needs to be there for the drivetrain to work... :(

apparently. i hop i can get the clutch off the old one and installed on the new one. the clutch itself is $600. argh!

Actually it does not have to be there to work. The powertrain works just fine without the compressor, hence the fact that it is not covered. It does suck to have it go with only a few years and 46k miles, but parts do fail.

not true. a/c is a non option, so you have to have the compressor there since there is no other serpentine belt option. sure, you can go parts store surfing for another belt/pulley etc, but it is a required part to get the other accesories to work, thus make the car run. :D

The principal idea is that the compressor itself is not REQUIRED for the engine to operate. That is why it is not considered part of the powertrain.
