    I have been wanting to build a trail rig to wheel instead of my daily driver. I saw this 1985 extra cab 4x4 up for sale and couldn't resist. It had been parked for two years and was not running well which was partly why they sold it for $800. A new tank of gas, can of seafoam, and new plugs then it was running great. It currently has 164,000 original miles. This will be a good project.

    There were several small rusty areas on the bed. I removed the body trim and filled the holes then bedlined below the trim line.

    Research putting Chevy 63" springs in the rear and putting rears up front. Fairly cheap and easy. I did it and cleared 37s on my 81

    I restored my last 85. As I get older I hate to see these poor ol trucks get hacked beyond recognition. I say give it the ol man emu 2.5" spring lift, some great tires, differential lockers and a robust maintenance program and she should get you almost anywhere you want to go.

    I was actually leaning towards this idea. At first I was just thinking about a Skyjacker lift with an adjustable drag link for steering but this probably wouldn't flex well or ride as smooth. The Trail Gear and Allpro kits are over $1000 more than the Skyjacker. The 63 Chevy and rears up front seems like a good alternative to have good flex and hi steer for the lower price.

    Picked up a set of 98 Chevy springs for $60 each and gave them a new paint job. They were pulled from a 4x4 but only have 4 springs like a 2wd model.
