So my wife has an 06 VW Bug that I would like to drive off a cliff. I traded my Taco about 1.5 yrs ago for a SUV.

I drive a lot for work, have a car allowance, expense gas. Wife drives locally for her business but she also prefers the SUV for herself when possible for ease of access for her equipment.

Option 1: Sell/trade the bug for a beater sedan for myself and give her the suv.

Option 2: Sell/trade the bug for a decent small suv, and we split it when possible. Try to save on miles for our nicer/old suv?

I'm o the HW a lot so as tempting as it would be to get a jacked up truck or jeep it would get old quickly.

    Thanks!

    1. Sell the bug.

    2. Buy a used Taco

    3. ????

    4. Profit?

In all seriousness, why don't you sell the VW, give her the SUV since she likes it, and you go buy whatever the hell you want (I'd get a 1st gen Taco...relatively cheap and great quality).

^ Only issue is I still have a payment on the SUV, only like $300/mo but I really don't want to drop too much into cars. As much as I would love a 370Z or jacked jeep or truck, at the end of the day its a work car.

Ah, so you're looking for something reaaaaally cheap, huh? Can't go wrong with an old Civic or Accord. My cousin has a '94 Civic with almost 500,000 miles on it!

^ That's option #1 and just rinse and replace every 2 yrs.

I guess another option would be to do a lease. Never done one, but for this situation it might make sense.

I say get an older 1 gen taco. Get the 4 cyl, 2x4 unless you need 4x4 and use that as your dd. You would have a reliable vehicle with good gas milage. Also you would have the truck bed if you needed it. The only thing going to an accord or civic that you would benefit from is a little better gas mileage. In all of my decisions on cars, I always go with 4x4 or all wheel drive only cuz I am more comfortable in the winter...Its up to you in the end tho. If you go with the taco, you'll have to fight like hell to keep it stock haha (at least I would)..Good luck with your decision!

Option 1 sounds like the best. Civics, Accords, Sentras and Altimas are the best for high-mileage commuters.
