Send them back for a refund or ask them how they fit since the ebay listing says that they will fit the 2004 Tacoma.

Maybe you could mount them in the footwell instead?

Eh, see my Build Thread sig link. Too many mods to list.
You drill your mounting hole up straight into the underside of the door...not the door panel.

That way they are at a 90* angle shining directly down on the ground, not at an angle.

You'll find room in the bottom part of the door if you look and plan your hole accordingly. Look thrice, drill once.

Yeah there's plenty of room in there. Gotta take your door panel off. Drill the hole on the underside of the metal door frame. Be harder as it's metal. But there's room. BUT, the projector light will protrude underneath just a little. And I haven't checked if there's clearance when you close the door. Should be fine. Won't know till I install mine. Got the Toyota logo. had them forever just haven't done it yet.

Thats a great idea. BUt i can imagine how hard it would be to drill into that metal. I will need to check to see if there will still be clearance for the door to close.

Install them in the bottom of your mirrors. A vendor sold those on the mustang forum. And they didn't sit flush. They wore paint off several guys cars. I had them in my mirrors so no chance of it.

Hmmm not sure how that would work... But not a bad idea. It may be too high for the image to show clearly. And i wonder if there is enough space behind the mirror

Um, yeah not quite sure what the other guy is referring to. Idk how they could wear off paint?? And they won't fit in the mirrors either. That's strange. It would be way too high anyways. I'm afraid mine will be too high being as I'm lifted a bit. Definitely won't work in the mirrors though. another option might be to install them strapped to the frame somewhere underneath the truck close to the door. But then they'll be open to the elements. Doubt they're gonna be waterproof. At least in the door there won't be too much water that gets in there to affect it.

Because the ones I'm referring to didn't sit flush. They stuck out. From the bottom on the door. If you look at the bottom of the door you would see that there is little room at the bottom between the door and the seal plate. If these are the same you will have slight scratches through the paint as time goes by. If they are of any quality the image won't be distorted enough to tell when they are in the mirror. And there is plenty of room in the mirror to accommodate the post.

Oh ok I see what yer saying. Yeah I wondered if they would touch. Probably if your door sags a little. But for mine, the image gets bigger and bigger on the ground the higher you go. And from my door it's already quite big. Being in the mirror I can't imagine how big the image would be. Ha. Idk about the mirror though. Unless those are smaller than mine. They're pretty bulky. And I have electric mirrors so I would think it wouldn't work. Maybe there's some way to install them making them flush. Some kinda spacer perhaps? Hmm.. OP you should post a pic of the light so we can see how thin it is where it would protrude. With the locking nut backed off a little. I'll take a pic of mine later. Think mine are a little different than yours.

maybe you can strap it onto door panel if you don't mind a tiny looking flash light attached to it.

Measured the lip and it will protrude about 3.4mm under the door frame...

Theres plenty of a gap if you drill into the bottom of your door for it not to rub anything. Measure... Drill... push it through and bolt it down.

ok i took some pics of the light fixture and the lower door panel. based on toendanger's post...these should fit under the door easily because the lip/flange is actually thinner than his. just tough to tell because there appears to be so little space under the door.

toendanger.... do you already have yours installed? I'd like to get some info from you about what i can expect to run into inside the lower door once i remove the panel. i know the power window regulator is in there and may be an issue.

i did check behind the side mirrors...not sure about others, but there is def NO space in there. no way they fit in mine.

i considered the footwell as jparf suggested..but i'd rather have them shine onto the ground when i open the doors.

i htink i'll go with under the doors.... i'm just worried about drilling into the metal. the hole saw they provided def will not do the job. looks like i'll be visiting the hardware store for a big boy metal drill bit.

another concern is moisture. i think i'll need some kind of seal around the flange to prevent moisture from getting in. although i'm not even sure if its an issue and would do any damage over time.

Cadman, yours are almost totally flush! Those are the better ones that are available, since there is less than 2mm of protrusion. If those rub, then you have other problems with your door because they have an almost 8mm clearance between the door and the sill. I have a set of these as well and just haven't taken the time to install them yet. If memory serves I got two different sets. One is the Toyota symbol in blue, and the other set is the "TRD" symbol.

Those are definitely nicer than the ones that were sold on the s197forum they stuck out about 5 mm. But the back post was a lot shorter. And if you've never seen a newer mustangs mirrors you'd see why I said mirrors. They are almost hollow back there.

You're way overthinking this. These kind of lights are designed to go into the bottom of the doors, not the mirrors or elsewhere. Use the hole saw provided, as it's the exact right size. Expect to throw it away after the fact.

Worried about moisture? Add a little silicone when you insert them.

Want to take them out? Sick a rubber grommet from NAPA in the hole.

Just make sure that where you decide to drill the hole has nothing above it that you are going to run the hole saw into.

Also, and I learned this the hard way, mount them and get them all wired up BEFORE you put the door panel back together. My passenger side was turned like 90* off from where I wanted it and I had to take it all back apart again to reach in and turn the projector so the image faced the way I wanted.

I also recommend getting an upholstry tool from Amazon (or Sears (where I got mine)) to assist with removing the door panels. Just put the tool around the plastic press clip and push to pop the clip free. You don't want to be reefing on the panel itself and rip the clips free from the panel instead of the door...
