I have a 08 Seadoo RXP 255. I have had it about 2 months now and last weekend I took it out on the lake. When I first put it in the water was running great, then all of a sudden the amount of propulsion was drastically reduced. It also, had this very violent vibration when you would give it throttle. I'm wondering if it is maybe the wear ring. First time I had it out on the lake I sucked up 3 microfiber towels.. But once extracted it seemed to be back to normal.

Just want a second opinion before I start spending money.

    going to be fun!
I know they have some speed sensors and rev limiters that will cause these types of problems.

Could also be the wear ring and or bent/broken impeller vain.

Is this supercharged? If so look at the bypass sensors to make sure they are functioning right.

    Very unlikely..but, possible.

Shine a flash light into the pump and take a look at the distance between the impeller and the wear ring. Shouldn't be any gap..If it looks okay, pull the pump and make sure the wear ring isnt spinning also. When you re-install the pump make sure the seal (black rubber seal) is also good between the hull and the pump..

Here's a good link for wear ring inspection

Okay I'm really hoping it is nothing more than the wear ring. I am going to try and look at it this weekend. I'll upload pictures if I'm not sure.

Now that you say the wear ring might be spinning, that seems very possible. The way it vibrates it seems thats what it could be doing.

Idk. First ski I have owned. I have loved it up until this point. Haha

That is spot on with what it is doing. Revving a lot faster than it should considering the acceleration. Then the vibration. I think I am going to pull it out tonight and give it a look.

Thanks for everyone's help. I love this place.

If your unsure just post some pics of the pump. If you do need a wear ring I recommend putting the set screws in to keep it from spinning. That ski should have them though

My Yamaha did this. Ended up losing an oil line and ran the motor on gas only (2 stroke), the craft new there was an issue so limited the rpms, didn't really help out the situation though. Had to get the motor rebuilt, lost PSI in cylinder 3, ran it back to shore (about 1/4 mile) then wouldn't start again.

Well thankfully I'm fairly confident this isn't an issue with mine. Mine is a 4 stroke. Never been a big fan of 2 strokes for that reason.

    Thank you for your input.
