BTW its a little more expensive than the first kit that I linked but looks like a bad azz kit and would get you the disc brakes that you want.

Yes it would. Combination disc/drums have a proportioning valve built in that sends a different amount of pressure to the rear drums. Sometimes this valve is built into the master cylinder, and sometimes it's mounted in the brake line itself.
For years street rodders have been using adjustable proportioning valves made by companies like ECI.

I can only imagine the headaches that would go along with trying to get ABS working and talking to the onboard computer.

That is why its best to go with a kit that is built specifically for our truck instead of trying to make something work.

This is from the website that makes disc brakes for our trucks

This kit is designed to replace the original equipment rear drum brake system on all
    2005-2015 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 &PreRunner.
Compatible with factory ABS & master cylinder.
It should be installed by a qualified automotive brake system technician.
Rotors choices include plain, drilled only, slotted only or slotted & drilled combo.

How often are you having to rebuild the drum brakes? I normally get 100K miles + from a set of rear drum brakes.

What if we dont want a 900$ solution .and if we want an easy way to replace brake pads and rotors with only a fj kit and not a custom kit .i hate drums on my 07 tacoma it never locked any of the rear wheel and they always get full of mud and crap and they look awfull

Yeah, every time this comes up someone else has failed to make the swap work. I mean work better than stock. This isn't like an old Honda where the OEM made two versions of the braking system compatible for manufacturing purposes and a quick swap of the MC and proportioning valve made everything work 100 percent. This is much more complicated because of ABS and the lack of any clear donor vehicle for the new parts that will work 100 percent with the old ones.

I hate to say it but if form over function is your thing it might be time for a new truck that isn't the Tacoma. GM makes a pretty truck with rear discs.

that's a good looking kit; and seems really complete down to e brake functionality.
seems like, somewhere in the wide world, there ought to be a plate adapter to get existing toyota parts on the trucj. I haven't looked into though.
If I were towing big weight a lot, discs might seem more necessary, but for now, the drums seem fine, and I don't think I even had to replace shoes on my last Toyota pickup in 200,000 miles...

My 00 stang rear brakes look awfully similar to that first kit.
