So I've had my truck for about a year and in the engine bay is a sticker that says a DEI remote start system is installed and all the warnings about disconnecting the battery etc. When I bought the truck from the dealership I was given the factory remote, so I am thinking it may possibly be an add-on module.

I've looked around the site, I found this write up for the Viper module http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/audio-video/252032-how-install-viper-5704-alarm-remote-start.html which i'm sure will be very helpful when i tackle this tomorrow.

    Here are my questions:
    1. Is there some sort of standard way to program DEI modules with factory remotes?
    2. Where would the module typically be installed so I can find it and work from there?

A few mods here and there and counting....
    1. No
    2. Mostly like behind the switch panel. Remove the lower panel beneath the steering wheel and slight above the fuse box is the prime location ive seen most aftermarket alarm brains.
