Some of you may have seen my dana 44 build, which is still a work in progress, but I have also begun gathering parts for the swap. One thing that I'm not to sure about is the power steering set up. Whether to just get the Tacoma 2.7L hydraulic assist power steering hose conversion for about $85, or the full Rock Assault Steering Pump Kit from Trail Gear for $467.
Right now I just have a 94 Toyota Steering Box. If there is any huge benefit from installing the full kit as opposed to just the hose conversion, let me know. Running 36" tires and having a locker up front does have me concerned about steering. I guess I just need help to justify spending $467! Maybe there's a better setup?

I would really appreciate the input. Thanks

With big tires and a full time front locker, I HIGHLY recommend hydraulic assisted steering. So you're looking at making your current stock power steering reservoir bigger and drilling out the restrictor in the pump (more fluid will stay cooler on the trail, costs a lot less than a full upgraded pump kit) or the whole shebang (pump kit with all new lines and hydraulic cylinder for the axle, more expensive though). I can say with a completely upgraded system, I can steer aired down 40" tires on pavement with 1 finger. You'll definitely appreciate the extra money spent on hydro assist.
