First my cruise control starts flipping out. It works but when I step on the brake and it disengages, the cruise control light starts blinking and I can't get it back on. I have to completely shut off cruise control and start it again to get it going. 6 months later it's still not working right ...any thoughts???

Starting having trouble getting out of park a year ago. Had to stomp on the brake a few times to get the damn shift knob to engage and get out of park. Thought I had bent a pin or something. About a month ago the brake-stomp method stopped working. Now I can't get out of park at all without depressing the shift lock button. All fuses have been checked and are fine. WTF???

And the icing on the cake ... I just noticed my brake lights are not working. Had a tail light out a few weeks back (almost got a ticket). Put a new bulb in and was back in business. Now all my brake lights are out. Parking lights work but stepping on the brake pedal yields no result. Again, all fuses seem fine.

On a side note, I did notice when checking my fuses under the hood that one called STOP LP CTRL is missing? Map says it should be there but I don't see anything plugged in.

I have an '07 Tacoma Sport. Someone shed some light here please before I'm forced to take it in to the Toyota dealership.:mad:

If your lights are not working the computer may not let you engage the Cruise - so I'd fix the lights first. (Check your 3rd brake lite as well!).

Not Sure about the fuse. Put one In for testing and see if it fixes the problem ??

One common thing with all these problems is the Stop light switch. If it's flakey or not adjusted right/sticking it may affect the cruise, lights and shifter ?? I'd check that first and try the fuse second ...

    Other Opinions ???

Sounds like a faulty or misadjusted brake light switch to me.

Took a bit to locate but Brake Light Switch just ordered. Autozone is getting it to me in a day for $35. Toyota quoted me $88 and said it'd take 3 days.

...and that's why I stopped going to Toyota service centers years ago.

Hopefully, this is my solution. I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks all.

Every single one of your concerns all lead back directly to a problem in the brake switch. Check/replace that.

Price is not always a factor. A lot of aftermarket part companies make cheap replacement switches. I know that it seems like more than twice the price is crazy, but when it comes to quality, and safety items, cheaper is not always better. Just sayin.

Just to let you know about the fuse/relay in the underhood panel. That space is empty in my 07 and everything functions correctly, so you shouldn't have an issue there. Sounds to me like you already have the fix underway.

I don't disagree. I know the importance of quality over cost, but I didn't think a brake light switch was something I needed to be concerned about. It works or it doesn't. My problem with the local Toyota dealership is much bigger. That's why I dislike them, not just because of this small part.

Hopefully I won't be eating my words in a month.

Hey no worries. Certain things I just won't cut corners on. Brake light switch would be one of them, but that is my opinion of course. Yes, it either does, or doesn't but if for some reason a sub-par switch does fail, it could cause some problems.

Y'know, after looking back at my post I realized how dumb my comment sounded. Of course it's important! Anyway thanks for your insight. Hopefully I won't have any problems and replacing this switch will resolve my issues.

You guys rock. I never would have known it was the brake light switch. So many issues, and one simple fix! Truck is all good now.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
