It's difficult to compare prices with Opti-Coat and Opti-Coat Pro to those given by different shops. I've seen absolute hack jobs for $1k+ and good ones for less.

If you're shopping, you should speak with and interview the companies offering the services. The price should be the smallest factor at the end of the day as to if you're happy or not.

Ya... After seeing some of the results above I was going to consider it, but holy fuck... I've paid less than that for complete paint jobs for work trucks!

That evil shit was called "touchless". I put that abomination on my first car. Looked great wet. Brought out the black and metal flake. When it dried though....OMG! Damn stuff made my car look like it was painted with a brush! I remember body shops offering services to strip it off. Ended up washing my car in kerosene several times which managed to remove most of it.

No way would I use anything remotely similar again.

Having Opti-Coat Pro and POR 15 applied to my 2014 Tacoma Limited over the next few days. The OCPro is $495; The POR 15 is $450.

For what it's worth, a couple of my pilot buddies have had the Opti-Coat Pro process applied to their personal aircraft; a Cessna 182 and a classic Cessa 170. These guys are fanatical when it comes to keeping the $20,000+ Imron paint jobs on their aircraft in pristine condition.

I know these two planes very well. I know how the paint jobs on these two planes compares to other well cared for aircraft on the field.

I have no doubt, whatsoever, as to the effectiveness of the Opti-Coat Pro process. If there was a more effective paint protection process available, I would have heard about it or read about it in aviation periodicals.

    Take care guys,

    JeanClaude,

I've read this article previously and feel that it's a pretty fair representation of the Opti-Coat product. Much of this comes down to common sense, which seems to be in short supply these days.

Opti-Coat is not a super hero, here to protect factory automotive finishes against all evil. It is not voodoo magic. But as the article makes clear, it does function as an additional, "sacrificial" barrier to HELP RESIST the effects of normal environmental hazards to paint.

One of the most common post-flight "maintenance" chores that every recreational pilot faces is removing bug guts from the leading edge of all surfaces on the aircraft. I can say from firsthand experience that surfaces treated with Opti-Coat Pro are much easier to debug and clean than surfaces pretreated with regular quality wax.

If the Opti-Coat barrier occasionally results in a (potential) deep scratch being minimized to just a surface scratch; if it makes it easier to remove bugs and other debris and results in a nicer looking wash job- that's all my expectations are for the product.

Nothing replaces good old-fashioned due diligence when it comes to maintaining a vehicle. But some products do, in fact, assist better than others when it comes down to applying elbow grease. Opti-Coat is one of those products.

I have had Opti-Guard on for 13 months now. Still beads like it did when new. Only maintenance I have done is hand wash it every 1-2 weeks. Bird poob, bugs, and sap come off super easy still. There are some surface contaminants, that I could remove easily with a clay bar, but I haven't bothered yet because I haven't had time.

My paint is still swirl and scratch free:

Also, my I had the inside and outside of my wheels coated. Here is what they look like after 15k miles (Took me about 5 min to clean them with a brush and APC)

I have had the Opti-Coat Pro process applied to my Tacoma. I am absolutely THRILLED with the results. Aside from the obvious - that the paint looks spectacular - the other most noticeable benefit is that when I take my truck through my favorite "touch free" car wash, it seems to come much cleaner since having the Opti-Coat Pro applied. To be even more specific, not only do I end up with a noticeably cleaner truck, but without having to towel dry it, I end up with noticeable fewer waters spots.
The water from the final rinse cycle doesn't just bead up; it literally cascades off the paint which allows the blow dry cycle to almost completely dry the paint.

I strongly endorse the Opti-Coat Pro paint protection process.

    Heads up guys.

Optimum, the makers of Opti-Coat, is discontinuing selling Opti-Coat 2.0 to the public. The only public coating they will offer is Gloss-Coat. A 2-year coating.

Opti-Coat/Pro will only be available to professional car detailers.

I'm thinking about getting this done at a detailer when my black 2015 gets here. Has anyone used it on wheels during the winter?

In western CO they dump a lot of crap on the roads during the winter and my polished aluminum MT classics got pretty tore up after just one winter. I was debating on getting them powder coated but maybe this stuff would do the trick?
