2009 off-road with 100k miles. $20k. Concerned about the rust. What do you all think?

I'm on my phone. If they don't display I'll fix tonight.

I'd be worried about the frame more than anything. Are you thinking of buying it? Do you already own it? You could take a wire wheel to the frame and get some rattle can / primer and fix it with a few hours of your time. If it's perforated I would walk away..

Maybe get them to give you a warranty, in writing, on the frame and if you have issues with it they will fix it free of charge. It doesn't look as bad as some of the ones around here though.

IMO, not a bad truck, if the dealer wants to make a sale - I'd make him do the frame warranty, although you prob won't have any real issues for another 5-7 years or so if the frame is left the way it is.

I think new is going to be out of my payment range with my underwater trade. I would love to go new.

They won't budge on price. No haggle.

Not sure if you can get just a frame warranty, I would consult with your insurance company to see if in fact the frame is FUBAR over time that they would cover it. It's an 09, and Toyota has been good about the frame replacements they deem necessary so far, If it gets really bad (you can actyually see through the frame) you could file a claim with corporate and they might do something about it. I am just speculating here.

    It's a beautiful truck.

I'd be more worried about the mileage than the rust, cause chances are whoever traded it in didn't do the brakes, shocks, hoses, belts, pads, etc..

I'd want all that stuff replaced before I paid 20k for a 5yr old vehicle with 100k on it. It takes some effort to put that number of miles on it.

I paid 24k flat for my 09 sport with 31k miles on it but that was 2 years ago..rust was similar slightly less but i took a wire wheel to it and prime/painted and it came out mint... i feel thats a decent price but i would also have them replace brakes shocks hoses etc. like fifthwind said it takes some effort to put that many miles on in the time period...good luck
