Point of Bigger tires? (just bought an ICON suspension)

    I have kept my 2012 4x4 base taco (v6) fully stock but with my tires at 35k, i went ahead and bought a slightly custom ICON suspension (ext coil overs, tubular UCA, leaf pack and the regular rear shock. No resis). I won't have the parts for about a week. Im trying to see if i can simply keep the 245/75/r16's on for another 5-10k before i also buy tires/wheels.

    I don't even know where I'm going to have the lift set to just yet. I don't want the lift for a high ride, just for the overall suspension upgrade and additional travel from pure stock. So with that said, i was mainly considering just going to the 265/70 or 265/75 and stick with the same wheel size.

    Does that seem like a waste given the suspension i have purchased? I see everyone wanting 285s etc but my concern is that i only camp/off-road a few times per year and that ill simply be wasting MPG's. Do the larger tires really even make a difference for casual trills and off road or mostly for rock crawling?

    if you have any thoughts or suggestions on tire sizes/wheels id love to hear them.

    Bigger tires give you more ground clearance. I went from 265/70 to 265/75 and gained 1/2" more ground clearance.

    Maybe get 235/85/16 which is 31.7 x 9.3

    TacoBrah, thats a first for that particular recommendation. Do you have any specific reasons for this recommendation?

    It seems to give a slightly larger ground clearance (1.26'' vs 1.18'') compared to going 265/75/16 which is what i was expecting.

    Since it doesnt seem to effect RPM much, i assume MPG is basically the same for daily driving/highway? I guess on a very inexperienced, still-fairly-unsure buyers point of view, im looking now at the 235/85/16 vs the 255/85/16 and reading the giant related thread here in the same section. Briefly, i dont see any obvious "winners" for tires in the 235 size though.

    I like to stick with a common size tire in case I'm somewhere and have to buy one. But to answer your question yes, you can run the lift at a lower position till you get new tires. Then when you decide what size you are going to run you can adjust the coil overs to the height you need and run the. Ew tires with it. Anytime you change the coil overs you will need to get an alignment to get everything back how it should be. Most to with a bigger tire to get more ground clearance.

    You will probably want to set the front to match the lift the springs will provide in the rear or you will have the stink bug look.

    Medic, agreed overall about sticking with common tire sizes... Which, was why i assumed the 265/75/16 was a natural choice since its right in the manual.

    but, after reading a few threads on the "skinnier vs fatter" tires etc im certainly thinking about the 235/85/16 or even 255/85/16. Im trying to look around to see if either of those would be "common" and what tires are even available in an all-terrain, high mileage type.

    Yeah you mentioned MPG which is why I recommended a skinny. My next tires will be most likely be skinny. 255 or 235.

    I was also considering upgrading my brakes... but that seems way more difficult than i was expecting?

    I just bought some 16'' TRD wheels and was looking for tires still... but now im wondering if i should return the 16's for the larger ones in order to have any hope of upgrading brakes in the future.
