I was doing some research and found the ARB Safari Snorkel and really like the looks of it. I already have a K&N CAI but was looking to upgrade to a safari snorkel. My main concern with the upgrade would be gas mileage. Will this positively, negatively, or neutrally affect my gas mileage?

No effect on (my) fuel mileage.
It MAY however lower your intake temps and allow your engine to run a little cooler.
    AND they're great conversation pieces!
I am always getting asked about it.

It won't make it worse but don't expect it to make it better. I've had a snorkel for months now and never noticed a negative difference, I could say I think it made it better but I can't prove anything. The only thing that ever made a difference was a afe intake I had once it did make for better gas mileage. Also I have a afe dry filter with the snorkel.

X2 on it being a great conversation piece :D

My snorkel came with my 03 DCSB and there was a deck plate mod in the air box. Only one problem = the plate was missing when I purchased the truck.

Also, I would think that the CAI (fender style) would have to be replumbed for the snorkel. If the CAI is within the engine compartment, I would think you need an OEM airbox.

This all is IF you want it a functional snorkel or just a poser snorkel...

I ran a Safari Snorkel for several years and just recently removed it. Since removing it, my intake temps have increased and my fuel economy initially changed for the worse, but now it's actually really good.

With the snorkel I was getting consistently around 18mpg. When I first took it off it dropped to 16mpg. Now about a month or so later I'm back at 18-19mpg. Not exactly sure how much of it is directly related to the snorkel, but it won't hurt, that's for sure and will definitely lower intake temps.

Also, I think you definitely want to go back to a stock airbox instead of the CAI that you currently have.
