I am getting a new laptop and coincidentally my subscription to McAfee "Total Protection" is about due for renewal. I have used McAfee for years, but it seems to get slower and slower. I am looking for a multi-user "suite" that offers the most protection for internet browsing, emails, etc. and is reliable (and hopefully fast). I will be running Windows 8.1 on one computer and Windows 7 on another. Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Ken

I'm using Windows Defender (comes with Windows) along with Malwarebytes Pro on Windows 8.1 and never have a problem with any viruses or malware.

On Windows 7 Pro I'm using Windows Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Pro. No problems with it either. Just stay off the porn sites. LOL!

After years of breaches and blue screens, went with Comodo (pd sub) and the free versions of Malwarebytes and Super Antispyware.....haven't had a single problem since. Comodo has two firewalls, incoming and outgoing. Helps to have a good router with a firewall. 7 and 8.1 on the same laptop and ptotection runs in the background on both.

Thanks again for all the advice. I just got an email from the Best Buy (where I purchased the laptop) advising that I have a free download of Webroot. I checked a couple of sites like PCMag.com and WebRoot was among the highest rated so maybe I will give it a try for a little while (came with the laptop so the price is right:)
    Thanks again,
    Ken

Wow! Thanks for all of the great advice guys, MUCH appreciated! I started this thread thinking that I may get one or two replies, but as usual the members on this forum were more than accommodating with advice. I ended up having to return the Dell laptop that I purchased from Costco and bought a Lenovo from Best Buy. There is a WORLD of difference in the quality of the laptops. The Lenovo is much sturdier and the keyboard and touch pad just "feel" like they are made much better and the Lenovo does react very sensitively. I have been a Dell user for probably 20 years, but since they started having their PCs made in China, the quality has gone WAY downhill. I did a lot if research and found that Asus and Lenovo (made by IBM) are supposed to be the two top brands with the fewest repair rates. I do wish that I could have bought the Lenovo from Costco though. With Costco you have 90 days to return the laptop for a refund but with Best Buy you only have 14 days. More importantly, Costco offers a "Concierge" service. Through their Concierge service you can call an 800 number for any electronic device purchased through Costco and get free Tech Support. EVERY time that I have called them I get an answer very quickly (no machines, a real person) and if they are unable to help they contact the MFG 9like Dell) and get someone on the phone for a conference call right away. That alone is worth purchasing through Costco to me.
Anyway, thanks again to everyone for the help!

Lenovo isn't made by IBM. They bought the rights to IBM's Think brand (Thinkpad and Thinkcenter basically.) IBM hasn't built a consumer laptop since 2007 (T61 series.)

Basically any business series laptop is going to feel sturdier than a personal series laptop...but yea Thinkpads have awesome keyboards.

I'm running Linux so I can't really help out with anti virus, but I've used BitDefender on peoples computers who were having problems (they have a free bootable linux based antivirus if you cant get into windows) with great success.

That is interesting. I had a sales person from somewhere tell me that Lenovo was made by IBM. Do you know who makes the ASUS?
    Thanks,
    Ken
