See if a detailer can buff it to less bad looking? Not really an "easy" fix for paint damage.

I have the same damage on my truck from someone. Buffed off the scuff paint marks but the scrapes down to plastic, gouges remain. You could hope someone gets an armor bumper & possibly sells their bumpers covers otherwise no magic without a pro will make it look the same?

Wouldn't it be neat if vehicles had a "sacrificial" body trim at the front and rear that would absorb minor bumps and scrapes without damage? I wonder what we'd call these parts? Hmm, maybe bumpers? Its rather ridiculous where the auto industry has gone with this, don't you think? Even more ridiculous is chicken-shit people who can't own up to their mistakes and pay for the damage they cause.

Do you have an idea how much it costs since it's only a cover? As you can see it hit two different parts.

I just had my base model cover hit and was handed a check for 360.16. That included 1.7 hours of labor. Mine is unpainted though

The plastic bumper cover on my 1st gen was $500 both times I hit a deer with it. I imagine the 2nd gen is that or more since it's painted and the 1st gen isn't.

So the scratched up part was the unpainted gray lower part of the bumper, so no luck with buffing or polishing out the marring. Its damage to the plastic.

I'll get a quote for a new cover tomorrow. Maybe I need the whole entire truck repainted. The amount of door dings and scuffs and scratches are ridiculous, and I wasn't reaponsible for one of them. Kinda makes me wanna drive a beater and return the favour.

So let's say you get it repainted. Then a week later it gets scratched again, then what?

No dings on my truck yet that haven't been done by us. But I will share a story about my wifes minivan.

Bought her a Honda Odyssey brand new back in 09'. The first week she owned it, I was out on the boat and she went to a store in a not so great part of town. She was a good girl and parked way out were nobody else was. Our son was less than two and still breast feeding. She hopped in the back with him to feed. Shortly after a car pulled up full of city looking teenagers right next to her. The van has limo tint so they did not know she was inside. The kids get out being loud and joking around. One of them takes his door and purposely slams it into the side of the van. Then another does with his door. They all think this is hilarious. Till one of them notices my wife and they all scramble back in and peel off. They did some pretty good damage to a one week old vehicle.

She was pretty shook up. And yes we both carry for protection. She felt, rightfully so, that if they tried to get in she would use the gun.

We think because it was a brand new quite expensive vehicle. These kids thought it would be a great idea to mess it up. She was in a rather low income and crime ridden part of town.

Moral of the story is people will not respect your things. Even if you take all the precautions (parking in the back of the lot) they will still mess with your rig if they feel like it.

    End of story!

You should be able to touch that up OP.

But they were JUST turning their lives around, how dare you cast aspersions on those fine upstanding young pillars of that community:rolleyes:

Some folks see a new Tacoma and HATE, they hate because they are jealous.

I'd not want to get involved with all the crazies out there either. But what I would do if I could, I would get the plate number and leave it under the damaged vehicle's windshield wiper with the Plate # , vehicle description and date/time. At least the victim has a chance to catch the a hole and you do not get otherwise involved. Either that or call the cops from an anonymous phone with info and hang up. Perhaps the police would flag the local police cars with the info and / or pass it onto the victim.

I'm sure the OP would have liked to have the info .

So do I call it in as vandalism? Possibly pay a deductible?

Didn't do anything with ours. It worked out because a year later we got side swiped on that side. Insurance paid the whole thing. I think you would have to pay a deductible for vandalism.

Call it nothing. Call your insurance and tell them the story and let them decide what category it falls under.

This is why I want plate bumpers. Not because I'm hardcore into off-roading and rock climbing, but because people in my city can't drive (and worse, think they can).
