Im in the process of making an on board air supply with a bunch of spare parts i have but I dont want to make it permanent. So my Idea was to use the 7pin trailer plug has my power and ground source.

Question is which pins are power and ground on the truck side? I cant seem to find a wiring diagram online for it and I dont have the truck at work right now (wife stole it for the day) to test each pin

it says right on the flap cover which pin is which. A simple continuity test between the known pin on the 7 pin side to the plug side on the truck harness will tell you which is which.

i dont have the truck with me today and was trying to make my connector at work so when I get home I can plug it in and test. so I figured some one on here would know which pin did what or had a picture or something results from google are not specific to the tacoma.

All i need to know is which pin has 12volts with the key on and which is ground so i can wire my connector

Bad idea, way too much juice to pull through the factory wiring.

    naw.

the 12v at the 7 pin is robust. probably a 10awg wire that comes from the front of the truck directly via a relay and a 30amp fuse

Thanks rnd2 that helps. As for the draw on the system it's a 18amp pump on a 30amp fused system. So as long as my wife doesn't take the truck tomorrow I can play around with it.

Interesting, I didn't realize there was a constant hot on that connector. Do each of the lights go hot or to ground when they are active? I think they go hot, so if so, what would one need the 12v+ on that connector for except to power a compressor?

I modified a 7-4 pin connector so one pin would be power and the other ground. Downside is I can't use that adapter if I need to tow something. But it's all set up running right now just added a pressure regulator to it so I can see how much air is in the tank
