Took my new smittybilt x20 10k apart to clean all the old grease out and throw some better grease in. Went with Lucas Red and Tacky since I had some and that is what I use in my zerks.
Anything is better than what was in there I am sure.

Packed it fullllll. Prob 2 or 3 times more grease. Wasn't much in there.

I was soooooo scared at first but it was pretty easy. Especially that you have the whole break down in the back of the manual if you need to look, but honestly there are only like 4 peices and they all fit back together fine so you really can't mess it up or else you would know easliy. That grease they have in there is crap and there is not very much at all.

The rebuild isn't hard. I had to re-do all my wiring from scratch though, that was a PITA.

Taking my solenoid apart as we speak (2gen X20 10klb) was planning on sealing it up with RTV silicone but looks like they make these different than the pics I have seen of the older XRCs.
There is a decent gasket sealing it but what makes it so hard is there are wires that are very very short (white) that doesn't allow you to take the thing completely apart to run the silicon. (Unless you cut them, add more wire and solder back to the connections) anyway these wires run to the little wireless box for running the winch wirelessly

Decided to put silicon to seal up the solenoid after all for good measure. 2e69b75a2b6b0442c8a5b5a196e2cf11_9e0fac22418a4a81eb29384a37016dc7845521f2.jpg54b319f573131d1f2b409e5a45a39061_bd8152a0579c16f38a68c76041f3a8d4e0e68fcc.jpg9c05578b8e4610057a406565d08a8723_05991193d5d2a662051bed9f22efa94d8474f7a3.jpgc09a277ef8bacaeb23d0a9529b51948d_b08795e6d88307532436eb3e378bd3929bc940c1.jpgddee672485e891c33699a425d34c0596_587e338ae10d481c3d86fa01691f7169d93874e3.jpgd7c433443a957d8a54d9a265f38e2419_807535fa53bc34c7ec8aef99438e0a86cb5fb290.jpg

Noticed the "terminals" we're very loose and water could enter easily. Sealed those up too.

Finally done installing. Man that took from 11:30am-6pm
Ran into wiring issues and took awhile to sort out. Also had to run to Home Depot cause all the hardware wasn't inside so check before you have your truck ripped apart like me lol
check out the size of the stock winch wire vs the wire I bought to relocate the solenoid 0/2 guage.

No I need something to go pull 506d6e6e34d1438b46b4cfb7ad4cddc9_fba331fe41fbfe59414ee19e3cd47d7dc7161cac.jpg8b8d8675cc1b644de4f4a6885082c794_55ef57aaccca9269c94e180b7585e3a568cbbe91.jpg5120103b5da15b139db8e46371bf4f26_1c500d01d52ac24a566d2a7ee25a922be1f593aa.jpg99f3d190a596d897f0c5f24e7a469ecc_2f0d5fa9edef009f56a2d6e117b4b131cfe11a74.jpg2f75bd22555e66681fdf41343c1024c6_770368458425ff3e2e9229dc970dd8fe2627024d.jpg54f0f0bfb7c95a51abf5aa2fa115cc63_f1fd63673f3f32b945a1d3d442112e3396646454.jpg7b2156b3b646a8c642158d5c266d71b2_466c4e2c530d940f25d5374b5ec6c210969ac183.jpgf28a1ac47641c1e5321cf79d78c37f4c_b92c9ca38ff8d7a79e9ce7c55f371774d20d5a06.jpg

Need a black fairlead this one is ugly.
Check out the difference between the 4 or 2 guage wire vs the 0/2 guage I used to relocate the solenoid to engine bay.

    :bananadance::bananadance::bananadance:

I got it from this guy. He was AMAZING at answering all my quuestions throughout the day. It was almost like I was texting the guy back and forth he was so quick with responses. This is what I ordered and yes it was pricey but I wanted some thick guage in case I test that 480amps one day and I wanted it all to be done right with and the lug connections and heat shrink the first time (those run $10+ for 2 btw and I needed 12)

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/290774652192?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&var=590080453961&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I got this all with 3/8 lugs:

    Red-6ft
    Black-7ft (x2)
    Yellow-7ft
    Red-7ft
Red-1ft (for when I install a cutoff switch that I have sitting in my back seat)
    switch- (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003BQLZ36/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

My total for all the wire was about $250 (pricey I know but for the huge 0/2 guage and pricing out all the lugs (12 total) and a crimper and my time etc it was worth it. It was sent out that day and I had it 48hrs later in the mail ready for install.

However: I did order a lot of wire and I bet you can get by with 5.5-6 ft of each instead of 7ft(saving some $$) cause I have a lot of wire bunched up near the battery but I wasn't totally positive how flexible it was going to be so I ordered more to be on the safe side. I also ordered this wire sleeve, but it wasn't in before my install to protect the wires so I need to somehow get it on there in the future.

yeah it is pretty pricey and comes out to around $7/ft with lugs, wire, labor, shipping etc. Not bad considering West Marine wanted $7.99/ft for just the wire alone. I didn't want to use this car audio wire everyone uses that is not rated as high or take as many amps, I had my mind set on marine grade wire as well. Also with good marine grade lugs at $10+ for 2 and I needed 12 that was $120 alone in just lugs so really the wire was $250-$120= $130/35=$3.72/ft.

oh yeah you can if you just keep the solenoid on the winch or really close by. Or even get a smaller guage wire, but the longer you make it the bigger wire you need. I prob could have been fine with 0 guage instead of 0/2 guage but anything over 5 feet I wanted bigger guage so it can hold more amps.
