    do i have a leak?

Installed my TRD short-shifter earlier today... not too tough.

    followed this:
    http://www.xr-underground.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2568

but after i removed the transmission retainer housing... i noticed pretty fresh/clean oil in the bottom of my housing. I didnt clean it up and proceeded with my install and it works just fine.

Curious if this is an issue since all the other install of peoples housing seems squeaky clean... do i have a leak?

In the old days this was a common problem on some of the T5 transmissions in the mustangs and chevy S10,s . A tsb came out that required drilling a small hole so the oil drained out .Oil gets flung up there and has trouble finding its way back into the gear box .
With this said , that was a tsb for a different model that was known for a leaking shifter tube .
The RA60 Tacoma transmission is designed different in comparison to a T5
    Is your truck a 2wheel drive or 4x4 ?
As long as you sealed everything back up with some rtv , you should be good to go.
To be extra sure , double check your fluid level to be sure it is " not " overfilled .
There is a write up with pictures within this thread for checking/changing your transmission fluid .

My truck is 4x4 2012 Access... 35k on the dash original owner. Hasnt seen TOO much off-road really. No serious trails at least.

I did use the toyota P/N for the FIPG(fill in place gasket) sealant... charged me 32 bucks!

I will definitely check my fluids this next week end and still look for peoples thoughts/opinions. Im a little concerned...

Seems like in general, i shouldnt have oil in there...

Normal. Also helps to keep the shifter mechanism lubricated.
