You would still be missing A-Trac and a rear locker which is HUGE. You can't buy a base or sport and make it like the Pro, you could take a TRD Off Road and make it like the TRD Pro.

The TRD Pro really is the perfect Tacoma, I just wish it was not so expensive.

I'd buy the pro if I'm in the market. Don't forget resale value. I bet the pro will command at least 10%- 20% more than your-built pro after 3 years.....

I have a 2013 "Baja" imo very similar, I can tell you right now as soon as it hits your drive way you can say bye bye to any money you have saved. I will be swapping out my bilstein coils and rear res for icons shortly. if color isn't a big deal, just buy and then install new suspension. I do love my Baja, and the suspension is good, but there will always be better, that's why Tacoma's are so addicting. Best of luck! The Burnt orange is a very attractive color.

Having a warranty and a pro for whatever they cost it's all in what you want to do. Or you can have a way more capable truck for less.

FYI regarding warranty. I put the Baja suspension on my TX Pro. At around 20,000 miles (very recently), my power steering was making noise. I noticed the fluid was all but gone from the reservoir.

Wound up to be a bad steering rack / seal. The replaced the entire rack but I had to show them proof that my suspension was OEM Toyota. If it were Icon, they would not have done the warranty work. When I was deciding on suspension, warranty pushed me toward the Baja package and i'm very glad I went that route now.

More capable for less??? 35 ish for your estimate and not warranteed. 37ish for OP with warranty? more capable - maybe, way more - doubt it.

Technically you may be right, I don't know. But I know that when I bought the truck they were telling me anything that changes the vehicle would void warranty. A new set of shocks wouldn't void warranty, but a new set of shocks and springs that altered the ride height would. The guy from the service department again made me show proof that the parts were OEM.

Perhaps there is a way around it / a way to fight it, but some of us don't have the time to be dealing with that kind of thing.

    Just sharing my experience.

You can get a 4x4 AC SR trim with entune plus for about $27.5k at invoice, no navi but you have 10k letf over for whatever. And I like that it has no chrome like the sport and 16in black wheels. I have an 08 4x4 ac or, in a few months I´m trading in for a 4x4 sr crew with long bed and saving a lot of $ over a sport or off road for OME lift and tires.

Hi, some unsolicited advice here: :D
To me it is TRD pro or nothing (I’m still in the market). Here are my reasons (off course people will argue with my judgment).

To make a TRD Pro out of any base line packages, you “NEED” to start off with a TRD off road package. The single most distinguishing feature that sets base versus TRD off road is the “diff locks”. Let’s leave the other “assist” features out.
Let’s do the math: (assume DCSB)

TRD OR package is $33,xxx ( and no negotiations in my case as I’m asking for a manual trans and they are all special order or dealer trade). Lift, Tires and shocks (~$2k), no navigation in OR. If you do end up adding, its $1200 option (this is std in Pro). I’m sure you can spend a little more and get the best off road truck “ever” with ICON lift etc but still it is NOT a factory produced TRD Pro and WILL NOT fetch the best resale as would a TRD pro. For sake of argument let’s leave my “insane” interpretation on resale value out.
    Ask yourself these questions:
    a) How often do you off road?
My case: My answer is little (comparative) atleast with a truck, I have “other” toys just for that.

    b) Why do you need a TRD OR or a PRO?
My case: I enjoy factory “as-is” vehicles and I seldom modify them unless the part fails and I have an opportunity to better it (be it looks or functional).

    c) Do you want to buy limited edition or regular?
PRO: production is “limited” for Pro, at least 2015 model and may be, they will increase production after Mexico plants becomes functional. They are some dealers in Bay area that will not be allotted even one single Pro for 2015 model-year.

Getting back: The price of our super off road ready rig is “35,xxx” and no navigation. Add navi and it $36xxx+ TTL. Let’s say the dealer had one in his lot and gave $1500 off MSRP. That still makes it ~$35K but you have “satisfaction” of getting exact look you want.

TRD Pro: low $37,xxx (navigation , skid plate std, mild lift and better tires from factory). I “like” to believe better resale value as well. What sets it apart? damm cool “color” and the grill.

In a nut shell, the price difference between OR(build up) and PRO is about $1500 which I think you can pull back on a resale if it comes to that.
I also “believe” most people how vote “regular package and build up” when given an option to trade “even” and pay up the price difference, will hop into the Pro boat.

In the end, what matters: No amount of Internet talks and recommendation will justify $40K or $35K on a small truck (at least to me). My Ford F 350 Dually (7.3 Diesel) was $40K brand new in 2000. Things have changed and we are in an economic bubble (this time it’s the dollar bubble-all that money that was printed in late 200x has to correct sometime soon- OFF TOPIC). So the “price is what it is”. The “one” person that needs to be conveyed/convinced and have to live with it is “you”. Ask 100 people and you get 200 or more opinions (most have one solid and one back up opinion just in case- why not? they are free!!!). All opinions are free but taking a bad one will cost “you” dearly.

Sleep over it: think about the financial impact a new truck will have with the price difference between OR and Pro ($1500 to $3000 more – stretching it) over the course of the loan term. You can skip Comcast and save $1300 a year. Netflix provides just as good TV for $10/month, so skip Comcast and put that money towards Pro if it comes to that.
    Just my 20 cents...

^any reason why you're set on a manual versus auto? Just preference for shifting gears? Off-topic but before I did the research I wanted a manual as well. But as it turns out there's no real advantage over the auto, outside of the whole shifting as you need. With the throw out bearing issues and other stuff, plus ease of actually finding a truck, I ended up opting for the auto. Not saying your wrong in any way, just curious.

I've already said this in another thread but I'll say it here too. Your numbers might add up, might... which I've not seen a pro for 37k anything. Plus the access cab sport for 32k? That's a little high. Your numbers don't jive, but let's say they do for arguments sake.

Someone else threw the warranty word in there, you could do whatever you want with your truck and your warranty stays intact.

You are going with icon suspension, which if you compare to the pro suspension.. There is no comparison, icon will walk circles around the bilstein shocks on the pro. If you factor in swapping the rear leaf pack (why wouldn't you for another $400ish) you will get a leaf pack that doesn't sag with 150 lbs of weight in the bed, and the sport access cab will come with a tow package.. I can't find some one to say 100% that the pro comes with one.

Furthermore, look at all the hype of the Baja, then look how many people ended up swapping the whole suspension out after everything was said and done.

One last note, if you aren't factoring in an OME suspension or toytec ULK with both run $1200ish because you want to huck or hit whoops.. You'll have bigger issues down the road on that sub par suspension the pro has.

The orange color is rad though, that's about it.

    Good luck bud.

Yes all the pro that I have looked at is 37, 3XX. The one that I have deposit is 36,xxx minus the tow package. They could not add in time....dealer will add it however

The DCSB, yes, they are 33,xxx and no price haggling ( special order, dealer swap etc).

Still running an argument about pricing, which I've already said for argument's sake, we can pass over your numbers.

I decided a SR5 would be great for me. I know down the line I would replaced all the TRD parts, with other (more capable) after market parts. I plan on building a expedition type truck.
I have a cousin who bought a TRD Sport and is perfectly fine with what if has to offer because he doesn't plan on going off road / expedition type trips.
I think it really just depends on what YOU would be satisfied with. I know TRD Sport and Pro aren't necessarily in the same league. It was just used for an example.
    Good luck
