I own a '96 Tacoma 4 x 4 w/3.4 190 hp V6 5 sp and when I have window down and put in gear including reverse and let clutch out as I start to move I hear a "ping" sound that I can't seem to locate...no change in performance or problems so far but it has been going on yr or two..I had it in to a transmission shop (1.5 yrs ago) and he jacked it up w/rear wheels off ground and seemed 100% convinced it was no problem. I had new u joints installed for general maintenance 3 yrs ago...

    Any ideas of that noise.....

    Thanks very much.

I have the same problem with mine. I found a post on TTORA about the same thing. Seems to be a common problem. Either needs an extra spacer on the output shaft of the T-case or maybe a new carrier bearing. I sprayed some kroil on my carrier bearing and the sound went away for a day and a half, so I think that might be the problem with mine.
