Cargo Net installation help.

Alright I know this is pretty silly, but I'd like to know how you guys have installed this cargo net


To the standard cleats the Tacomas come with. I have a 2013. Do I need to buy special cleats for the bed rail system to attach it? As you can see, the net has stretchy nylon loops to attach to a hook. The OEM cleats that came with the vehicle do not have any hook type appendage on them.

The cargo net I had was for behind the back seat storage. I didnt know they made one for the bed

 

You take the stretchy loop part of the net and pull it thru the opening next to the "spin knob" and pull it over so it hooks onto the cleat part ( > )

I put two bed cleats about 1.5 feet forward from my tailgate. Then install on cleats as shown above. Lower two corners I bought two cheep plastic snaps and hook the corners to the d rings. I also have a Tonneau cover. This is great for grocery shopping - open the gate and put in the sacks/packages. Should I need the whole bed, just pop the net off the bed cleats. (This also saves scratching the truck to get at stuff in the net if installed behind the cab.

 

You just gave me an idea. I was going to go to the hardware store to buy a couple of double headed metal snaps to tether down the bottom portion of the net, but I have a bunch of black zip ties sitting around doing nothing right now. Thanks! I may still go buy the metal snaps though.

 

Buy Plastic if you can. Won't rust or rattle....

 

I moved mine from behind the rear window/forward part of the bed to along the drivers side of the bed. More easily accessible for me. Especially when retrieving items.

 

While we're on the subject. Hauling things around anyway, does anyone have any good ideas for safely hauling those big 5 gallon jugs of water in the bed? I used my net last night for it, and it worked just fine. They did slide horizontally though. No big deal, I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on this.

 

I have a few rubber tie down straps. I put my 5gal gas containers at the back of the truck with the net located just before the tailgate. I put the tie down through the handles and tie the ends to the D rings.
When not using for containers, I hook each end of the tie down hook through the bottom end corners of the net and clip to the D rings at both ends - so the tie down is flat to the bed. It then holds down the bottom of the net and I can still wedge small packages under the tie down if needed.

 

I'd snug them against the tailgate and ratchet strap them to the back; I'm a little anal about no movement.'

On original topic; I put my cargo net across the bed as shown above; but i have the rails as far back as possible; so if the net flaps it just hits the tailgate. Less annoying when not in use.

Get one of those yellow nets like I have, they are great. I think it was $10-15...

 

I attached the net to the cleats like that the first time. I was kind of concerned it my ruin the stretchiness, so I asked on here for the "proper" way to do it. Yours have held up just fine like that? Thanks for the suggestions everyone, they've been helpful!

 

I built this outta some scrap lumber one day for just that purpose.
Sits up close to the back wall of the bed when I need it.



(Hint: pre-drill holes in wedges first!)

 

I will admit I am concerned about the loop's integrity after 4 years of constant use, seems a little worn. But, the net has been in the bed exposed to the elements, since day one. So, I'm thrilled it's lasted through years of my abuse. Well beyond the recommended usage, too. Seriously though, get one of those yellow nets or the like. I've used mine to keep my riding mower in place from the store.(500 Lbs.) No movement, no issues. Or, try some toyota bed dividers. Probably expensive, though...

 

If you have the time I'd like to see link to that yellow cargo net, or something like it. That would come in handy. If anything, just for getting new BBQ grills or new mowers, and the like.
