When I turn the key I hear a "click" then a split second of nothing and then it starts up. This slight hesitation when I turn the key has me thinking maybe it's the starter but unsure. Any ideas

    These are the symptoms...

    I turn key
    Hear a click (starter?)
Then it turns over after a split second of hesitation

I haven't had a bad starter on one of my toyotas yet, but all but my current toyota have had starter relays go bad.

My truck done the same thing. It lasted maybe a few more weeks or so until it quickly started getting worse. Eventually it wouldn't start at all, and I had to roll it off to get it started so I could get back home. When I put a new starter on, it sounded different on start up for whatever reason, but I haven't had a single hesitation since then. It's been on for about a year or so.

Try replacing the contacts in the starter before buying a new unit.

It was the starter. I've kept the oem starter so I can replace the contacts. I'll use it as a spare starter incase this autozone starter craps out. Thanks for the help
