I've researched this topic, to include the main write-up / PDF file, and I have ordered the parts needed to do this mod on my 2014 Tacoma. After reviewing everything I have a couple of questions...

It is my understanding that using the Radio Shack 275-0218 DPDT relay the wiring should go as follows, using numbers printed on the relay:

    1 violet
    2 green/black
    3 pink
    4 violet
    5 blue
    6 green
    7 red/black
    8 ground

I understand that the module gets placed on the "harness side" of everything. That said, which wires listed above are coming from the "harness side" and which ones are heading towards the "ECU side"? I'm confused about this, probably because I can't read a wiring diagram.

Also, do you suggest tapping into the white/black wire for the ground or is there a better way to run the ground wire (number 8 above)?

I'm fairly mechanically included, aside from electrical stuff, and I just want to make sure I understand everything 100% before I knock this mod out on my truck.

    Thanks in advance!

Nobody? This seems like a fairly common mod so I'd assume somebody can help clarify things for me.

If somebody could draw a quick sketch of wires to/from the 275-0218 DPDT relay, by color, that would be a huge help. Correlating the lines on the diagrams I see to the actual posts on the relay is what seems to be giving me trouble.

Example..."the violet wire on harness side goes to post X and violet wire on other side goes to post Y", or something along those lines. Or are their wires that get cut and only one side is used? The more I over-think this the more I get confused/discouraged, haha,

Thanks. So all of the wires are coming from the harness side, with no wires heading to the "ECU" box behind the glove compartment? Also, the two violet wires are leads coming off the one violet wire in the harness?

I guess what I'm trying to ask is...that right plug on the harness, where all the cutting happens, will basically be re-routed to the relay with the exception of the power wire which gets tapped?

Cool, thanks. For some reason I was assuming I'd be splicing the relay into the wiring, with wires going to the ECU. I think it finally "clicked" for me. (-:

I normally figure things out as I go but I really don't want to hack up the wiring harness in a truck with 5k miles. Thanks again!

So the 12VDC/10A DPDT Plug-in Relay (Radio Shack part 275-218) is the one to use, not the 125VAC/10A DPDT Plug-In Relay (Radio Shack part 275-217)? There seems to be some flip-floping in different write-ups when it comes to the relay to use.

Thanks for the help Rock Lobster. I did the mod this evening, it took about 30 minutes and everything seems to work great.
