Yea I had to replace my clutch in my 2012 at 12,000. Was smoking any time i put any stress on it. Literally. i.e. reverse on any small hill or in 4x4. And I had to pay out of pocket as no clutch or flywheel is covered by warranty. LAME! like 1500.00 After replacement, i had no problems or slipping/smoking. It was fine. Toyota claims all clutch problems are related to "driving style". As i understand once in a while they have a bad batch of clutches.
recently moved on to a 2014 dcsb Off road, automatic. all in all i am happier.

    just easier to drive.

    none yet
I replaced my clutch (5 speed, 2004 Tacoma Xtracab with 3.4l V6) at 130K. It began slipping while towing my Skeeter up out of Calville Bay, Las Vegas, NV.. That's a fairly steep 4 mile grade. I had smoked it or a friend had smoked it 4 or 5 times but overall I tended to "baby' the clutch. Growing up in San Francisco trained me to deal with most feathering issues.

Replacement was disk, pressure plate and new flywheel, throwout bearing and rear seal...and front brake pads changed out ....about $1100

On my 2000 3.4L V6 I got 192 out of the original clutch. Went back with a Marlin Crawler Heavy Duty setup and a new flywheel. I also replaced all the clutch hardware and flywheel hardware, as well as the pivot point. Cost my around $500 in parts. I replaced the clutch. With someone who is working quickly and has no issues while replacing the clutch, I would say 3-4 hours with the right tools. It took me 5.5 and that was taking my time.

Got my supercharger for my '02 access cab 5speed v6 and was nervous about sticking with the stock clutch...went with a Centerforce and have not looked back..with almost 173K miles now I have been very impressed and have not regretted getting her done.

I remember one particular time when I really smoked my clutch pulling a heavy load. I Wonder how many miles something like that takes off the life of a clutch?

Replaced the stock one at 124k, pilot bearing was bad. Put in a Sachs one, still going strong at 60k+ miles.
