Sound Deadening Doors with RAAM Audio Products

Sound like it came out perfect! I was thinking that there would be a little difference after the install but it was 'huge' with the quality of sound and the reduction in 'noise'!

 

I did my back wall with RAAM a month or so ago I have 6 sheets left for the front doors when I get around to finishing my install. My amp guy is taking his sweet time getting my order done.

 

Those of you that sound deadened your doors and removed the moisture barrier, how did you deal with all the tar like adhesive that they used to keep the moisture barrier on the door?

 

I didn't do anything with it. I left the butyl there and applied even more.

I used CLD tiles from SDS for large flat areas.

And, I used butyl rope between the cross member and door skin inside the door itself.

I then sealed the holes in the door using corrugated plastic and cut up strips of CLD tiles.



Most of my sound deadening was done on the inside of the door. I wanted to avoid adding anything else to the front because I still need to fit a sheet of 1/8" MLV between the door panel and the door.

 

This is a great thread, asks for all the pictures. I just did this myself and replaced the crap factory speakers. If anybody is on the fence about doing this don't be, just do it. Makes a giant difference in sound! Also, I'm amazed at how bad the factory speakers are, I know people have posted they are crap but until I saw ithem myself I didn't fully understand.

 

Which speakers did you put in there? Are you still using the factory radio?

 

RAAM mat and ensolite are the best. To those who replaced their front and rear speakers, please read carefully what RAAM recommended in installing the product directly behind the drivers. Use 2 to 3 layers of RAAM mat behind the driver and the final touch of adding an 8x8 size (no larger) of ensolite to break up the sound wave . The difference made by following this recommendation made a very significant improvement in my install. My Clarus fronts are so much better with this recommendation compared to just placing a single layer of the RAAM mat behind it. Godspeed.

 

I didn't have much money to spend so I went with some decent budget pioneer 6.5 components. I have an older pioneer avh p4400 installed, altogether the headunit, speakers, and sound material was probably around $400, maybe close to $500. Imo it was worth it, I'm going to have this truck until it dies or is wrecked and the difference in sound quality is night and day.

 

I know this is an old thread, but I used it as a guide to insulate the doors of my truck recently. This is a great tutorial.

I used some duct insulation as sound deadening material. I've used the stuff on three previous vehicles and it works like a charm. Perhaps not as well as materials specifically made for sound deadening, but for less than 1/4 of the cost, it cannot be beaten IMO.

Frost King adhesive duct insulation - $18.77 for enough material to more than cover both front door panels inside and out.

Did mine about a month ago. Fun is probably not the word I would have used but the result is worth it.

 

i have a sick sense of fun. looking forward to the quieter interior. should have done it years ago. doh

 

Doors are done. defiantly a difference. i suspect when i do the back wall and floor next weekend i'll see a much bigger difference.

looks like i have 16 sheets of the mat bxt left. i sort of want to do both the floor and roof. lets get crazy. if you have left overs and are tired of looking at it....... i may have a home for it.

do you guys just never worry about having to replace the window regulator or door latch?

 

you can't live your life in fear. but if i did have to replace. might make it a little more messy. but it is totally worth it

 

I used MLV. Replaced the vapor barrier. Its held on by Velcro so its removable.

 

Same here. No regrets there. I've already had to get back in there once. I'm going to try & seal soon, but with a foam gasket over the big hole so I can get back in there. A true seal in a door is almost impossible anyway.
