You guys better hope a rear bearing doesnt go bad like mine did. Im a Ford tech and I do bearings all the time on fords but our trucks need a special tool to do the rear bearings. I bought all the parts online and had a friend at aacmo install it cost me $425 to do it at the good buddy discount rate. I feel bad for anyone who has to pay dealer price on it

You have to remove the rear axle which means removing the rear brake assembly. Once the axle is off the truck you need a special tool that bolts to the bearing assembly and then you press it off and then back on.

I could have done everything but press off and on the bearing but I paid someone else to do it for me. That's what credit cards are for.

As for parts I bought a timkin bearing from rockauto.com and the rest I called toyota and told them I need all the little parts there's an Oring, axle seal, a washer type thing and a collar all that was $35 bearing was $115

It isn't THAT difficult, lol. I have done several and yeah, it does take a special tool setup, but a lot can be made with a little fabrication work.

Could I have rigged something with what I have available probably 25ton press with all kinds of adapters. We don't really fabricate anything here. Ford supplies us with special tools and we follow our workshop manual hell we don't even have a welder in the shop.

End of the day it was less of a headache to pay someone to do it. Had I done it my self I would have lost more money because I wasn't working on work cars

I simply took a piece of 1/4 inch plate, torched a center opening for the shaft, drilled 4 holes for the studs on the axle, and welded a 1.75" tube to the plate, then another 1/4 inch plate on top, with a center opening that would rest on the press plates. Pretty simple really, but yes, you would need a torch and a welder. I am surprised that a dealership didn't have a welder and cutting torch in the service department, or the body shop at LEAST, so that you could get something fabricated.

Yeah no welder cutting torch yes and no body shop here. Every other dealership he owns has one but he(the owner) doesn't want a full body shop here.

There are techs here that have welders at home but most people here won't have access to our kind of equipment

I had to do the bearings on my old 05 taco. Couldn't find a shop anywhere near me to do the pressing! Ended up having something made like ^Bill here.
