Look up the 400w anytime mod. I think there was a diagram in that one.

I'm planning on adding 2 USB flush mount charging ports and at least 1 regular 3 prong outlet inside the cab.

My question is whether it is better to wire them directly from the battery or tap into the stock converter.

I have very little knowledge of this whole DC/AC, Watts, Volts, Amps, etc so any help would be greatly appreciated.

The USB ports are only to charge passenger's iphones and my Galaxy S5.
The 3 prong outlet is to be used for charging camera battery, the occasional laptop, tablet, etc.

I guess my main question is; which method of wiring is better in terms of:
    1) Quicker charging/more power to devices
    2) Not messing up my truck

USB ports would connect directly to DC wiring. Ensure you get a USB port that can put out at least 2.1 Amps for most newer cellphones/tablets.

For the AC outlet, you would tie into your existing toyota Inverter. Best to get someone to help you out with this stuff, if you are new to working on electrical stuff.

Thank you for your response. I've been reading more and more and that's about what I gathered... DC power from battery for USB ports and AC power from inverter for regular outlet.

So... has anybody found a good direct wire USB charging port that is 2.4 amps or anything above 2.1 Amps for that matter. All I've been able to find for hard wired USB charging ports are dual USB ports that are usually 2.1A on one port and 1A on the other.
Yet I found this cigarette lighter car charger that is dual USB port with 2.4 amp on each one (not bridged): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E1UWA4O/ref=gno_cart_title_0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A227S80PWCO89I

Now, I understand that the device limits how much power it will draw and I believe Apple devices are 1A while my Samsung S5 can draw 1.8Amps. But, there are other devices that will draw more than that and so a USB port that can power 2.4 amps to each is better to have.

I'd rather hard wire a USB port in my center console than use the cigarette lighter car charger i linked above.
Just wondering if anybody has found one that I haven't been able to find.

Outstanding. I wanted 120V in my cab and was thinking of tapping into the bed receptacle and running it back into the cab. Now I feel really stupid, not even thinking about where the inverter might be located.

I admit I only read about half the thread, but does this provide a hot receptacle only when the ignition is on? Or always?

    Repped.

Just hit the switch and it turns on. Driving or not driving.

    Driving: 100 watts
    Not driving: 400 watts

You can do the 400 watt anytime mod. Use the search button for that.

Working on it. Never Ending :)
I would really love to do this mod, I have taken apart my console and I do have the inverter under there… but I do not have the outlet in the bed or some weird reason ??? Previous owner took it out maybe not sure, but I do not have the inverter button either. So I am guessing I would need the button and make sure there are the proper wires connected to the inverter and then I could install the outlet correct ???

Yea. Try a junk yard for the bed outlet. Not sure how to hook that up, but if you ask here in sure someone will help you.

You can purchase that piece from Toyota, or find one at a wrecker. It will fit.

For the extra plug? You are ibew and your asking that.you can only get a little over 3 amps out of the inverter so you could go pretty small but I'm sure you already no that.i used 14g only cuase that's what I had.
