    Long story short...
bought a lightweight boat trailer that was handmade many years ago.
The guy slapped it all together so I disassembled it and bought new hardware.
The leaf springs sit on top of the axle.
Bought square U bolts and tie plates.

Can I reverse it and put the tie plate under the axle and the square u bolts around the leaf springs?

If you have figured all that out and you are scratching you head why I am doing this, it is because there is a flat piece welded to the bottom of the axle for the square u bolts to sit on but the tie plate spaces them to far apart to sit on the flat piece.
I figured it cant hurt. Just want to know if this seems like a catastrophe waiting to happen.
