On the customer website i don't show any open recalls either, but in the service records area it list "01-04 frame inspection, undercoat" was completed in 2010 so you might look there. Many thanks to the previous owner!

According to the guy it isn't all frames that have issues, just ones in certain parts of the country. But the warranty covers the entire run of trucks regardless. So bad frame in a dry area, no issues. Same frame in the NE and big issues.

I had a 96, frame looked great. I have a 2000, rusty rusty rusty. AFAIK the 96 came from a rust belt and the 2000 has been here the entire time, go figure.

Not in all cases. I know people who had their 1st gens from the salt belt coated many years ago and never had rust issues....still to this day.

People who take care of their trucks tend to have little issues and their frames last longer.

People who are ignorant to the fact vehicles need maintenance... that's a different story.

My understanding is that all Tacomas of a certain age range are suspect. Go to the dealer, they will look up the VIN and see if your truck is in a suspect timeframe and if it is still covered by warranty. If both, then they may inspect it to see if there is a claim to be made.

clueless much... very ignorant post because i maintain my truck quite well and my frame is rusting after the treatment. it has nothing to do with maintance. it has too due that the frames where coating the first time around without proper preping. there for it didnt bite to the frame like it should and certain batches of trucks got it worse then others. if your truck was the first one dipped that day you where fine. if you got one that was the last it rotted within a few years...

so no one owner is to be blamed for this because they didnt oil or clean there frame. its toyotas lack of prep

Obviously Toyota acknowledges a quality problem, that's why they have spent millions of $$$ on the issue. If it were simply a matter of owner maintenance, there is no way they would incurred the financial and PR fiasco. If Toyota didn't own it, they would have told owners to pound sand.
