Got a call from the local dealership today with a list of stuff that they are recommending:

Replace leaking transmission pan - $300
    Timing belt & water pump - $605
Steering rack is leaking - new Toyota rack $945, aftermarket $550 (includes roughly a half hour labor as they will already have the truck apart for the frame swamp)
    Steering rack bushing - $54
    Diff flushes - $95
    Transfer case flush - $45

With the new frame I'm getting the standards, new leafs, new brake lines, control arms, gas tank shield, etc.

The timing belt & water pump I'm thinking I will do myself as it looks like O'Reillys has the parts for around $150 ($50 for the belt, $100 for the pump). I think I'll do the transfer case and diff flushes as well, pretty simple...just need to see what the price on the fluids are, if its not a big difference between cost of fluid and what they want to charge, maybe I'll let them feel good and do it.

I'm leaning toward having them do the steering rack and bushing since they will have it apart and the price doesn't seem bad. Might have them do the transmission pan since that price includes the new fluid and I'm lazy. Thoughts?

Also, my front brakes are only making about 50% contact on the rotor and ebrake pivot is seized. I knew about the ebrake, didn't bother with it because I never use it. Not sure about the deal with the front brakes, but I'm probably just going to pull them apart myself.

I know I tossed a lot of information out and didn't really ask much of any questions, but just wanted to get input on the pricing, parts and any thing else that I should be thinking about doing with the frame swap.

Seems like a high price for the Steering rack. You can find an aftermarket for under $200. it seems like that is where the price of the labor is added on. How many miles on your taco. Congrats on the new frame.

Yeah after I posted I did a bit more research on the steering rack. Looks like there is quite a range on the prices. I'm now wondering if I should just do it myself.

My truck has a little over 91k on it. It doesn't look like the under carriage was taken care of too well by the PO. I bought it knowing I could get the frame replacement on it, and the motor and transmission seemed solid.

After doing some reading (there doesn't seem to be any set in stone do's/don'ts for the transmission) I think I'll drop the pan, change the filter and put a new gasket on myself. I can't tell exactly where the "leak" is because the dealership wiped everything around...but it looks like towards the front of the pan is where it is originating. I'm also seeing some wetness up the line that runs out of the passenger side of the pan. The leak isn't bad enough that I'm low on fluid or enough to leave a spot on the ground under the truck.

Anyone have a part number for the transmission pan by chance? I can't seem to find one?

Mine has the same mileage. I just bought it too, and also knowing i soon will be getting a new frame. although mine was coated, i can already see it pealing. The part number for the pan i believe is 35106-30051 PAN SUB-ASSY, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OIL

    www.toyotapartszone.com has them.

    Thanks for that part number!

My frame was sprayed just prior to the deadline, but it has flaked and pealed off terribly.

No problem. Yea the coating toyota uses seems to be so cheap it only holds on for maybe a year or 2. Good luck on the new frame.

    Pretty much stock right now
Is your steering rack leaking, or just seeping? Mine has been seeping for years, and has never amounted to anything. In other words, it's just wet but not dripping fluid. Hey, we are talking steering racks here. I have a set of rack bushings here to install, which I have done before on another truck. If you can do the other stuff, you can do that. But, they will have it apart...

Toyota undercoating leaves much to be desired. There is more of mine on the driveway than on the truck.

Like yours, I'd say it's seeping, no puddles under the truck... not even a drop as far as I've ever seen.

Getting really annoyed with the dealership here. I still haven't gotten the call that my new frame is in. The dealership I'm going through is typically highly rated here, but I'm quickly losing interest and patience. They said up to 8 weeks to get the new frame and we are well beyond that at this point. Calls to the dealership have yielded lackluster info. Anyone here from Maine had their frame replaced?

If it is taking this long to get a frame in, I'm nervous about how long it's going to take them to do the swap and the quality of work...
