new taco owner here and got it with rusty steel chrome rims.

I want some OEM stock steel rims for my truck but 14" taco rims aren't easy to find in good condition and I would prefer not to get mags with corrosion or rusty junk yard stuff needing work.

I was also thinking about what other options might work like stock steel rims or even mags from a corolla or camry if the price and condition are nice because they "seam" to say they are the same 14" rims with the 5 bolt 4.5 pattern and I "think" the offsets are the same but will this really be an option or do I need to stick to looking for Tacoma 2wd truck rims only.

I was cautioned about even though rims have the same specs, sometimes its hard to tell because they may not have the same sized hub holes and may not fit.

can anyone advise if other Toyota 14" car rims will fit the 2wd 5 lug trucks?

as a backup plan, I know I can always paint or powder coat the rims I have or throw on some of those base model camry plastic hub caps over my rims if I cant find a great deal on something but I would like to give the truck its stock look back, I outgrew chrome rims and mags years ago so I want something practical that still looks good

Maybe just go find some rims you like and see how well they fit?

but in almost any case (ebay or craigs list) I would need to know if it fits in order to buy it to try it on

I cant afford to buy something I cant use and have no time or desire to try reselling stuff I bought and cant use and cant afford to lose money on it if I did. (fixed income)

I just figured with so many of these trucks on the roiad someone would know if car rims fit the tacomas and if they do, which ones are they?

hmmm, I wonder if boat trailer rims will work? I see a lot of 205/75/14 trailer tires and rims at the boat launch that look nice.

these would be easier to get just to try if they fit

If you go this route make sure the rims are rated for a vehicle. Trailer tires are not rated for vehicles, not sure about rims.

I think that putting skinny little rims designed for a car or boat trailer is a bad idea. You'd have to get car-size tires for them and it would look ridiculous.

If you insist on getting 5-lug non-toyota rims, at least get them from another truck, like Mazda, or Nissan, or any other 2wd truck that has a matching 5-lug pattern. They still might not fit over the calipers in the front, due to potential offset issues. You're still gambling.

I'm in the same boat. I have a 2000 tacoma 5 lug with cheap chrome aftermarket wheels. The tires I have are brand new 14" so I want to find some factory tacoma SST wheels or other factory wheels off a RAV4 camry etc that would work. I just want the stock looks so no chrome or black wheels. Sst wheels are nearly impossible to find now!

the trailer rims are 14x6 and so are my factory rims but the rim strength might be an issue to investigate although trailer tires carry much more weight then care tires do so if anything the truck rims may be the weaker of the two if there is even a difference.

my stock tires are 215/70/14 and the standard 14" trailer tires I see the most are 205/75/14 so just about 1/2" less tall overall and about 1/2" skinnier across the treads is the only difference I see and trailer tires are made for higher loads while not being rated for high speeds but im never going to be doing 100 mph for that to matter anyway.

I was watching these but im not going to spend that much so i'll share: http://www.ebay.com/itm/130505210331?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

they are really nice but center caps will likely cost you another $30 per rim and the question is even though the rim specs are the same as listed for our trucks you never know 100% if it fits until you slip them on it.

what I like is chromed aluminum might peel if corrosion gets under it but they wont ever rust on you

Don't know if mentioned but pretty sure 15" are stock even for 5 luggers, I'd think 14" wouldn't fit because of calipers...

no the 1995.5-2000 trucks used 14" 5 lug rims and the 2001-2004 trucks used 15" 5 lugs

the only 14" alloys I am aware of that you can find in decent shape to use as-is are the ones that come off of the cars like camry and corolla but I don't know for sure if those would fit even though the numbers "seam" to match. if so im thinking that would be the source I need to look for finding steel with hubcaps or alloys in the 14" size.

I don't want to switch to 15" and have to change speedo gear in the tranny.

the trouble I am having is sourcing something just to try it isn't much of an option for me and I don't want to cross my fingers and buy something blind just "hoping" it will fit and work ok. if it has the wrong offset it may rub or stick out too far

if you find a match from another vehicle please share the year and model it came from
