It's a very nicely maintained 98 4 cyl. extended cab automatic with 87,000 miles on it.

It came from her dad who recently passed. First we were just going to take it to Carmax, get what we could, and write a check to her mom. We already have two cars, one of them is a small SUV, so we didn't really think we needed a truck. Besides, I'd borrowed it numerous times before. It made my back hurt and I was not overly wild about how it drove. Probably because it was a truck.

But then I made a few runs to the dump with it and remembered from borrowing it before that if I pulled it into the garage, it made a great stepladder. I even drove it to work one day.

Realizing it's utility, my wife agreed to keep it for the time being. Then, the other night we were driving it to dinner, and she said "You know, we should get some of my old cassette tapes and keep them in the truck so we have something to listen to." But when she said that we should also get some stickers for the back window, I realized at that very moment, that we were indeed keeping this truck.

Today I went out and pried off the ugly 90's styled plastic wheel covers and found the black truck actually looks good with just the black steel wheels. And for some reason, it drives better than I remembered it. Best of all, my father in law had left a mesh lumbar support on the driver's seat that solved the back issue for me.

Now I just have to figure how what to use it for.

Oh and btw, you're barely breaking in the engine at 87k miles :)

I just found the wheel covers to be way too 90's. They looked like something you would put on a base model Corolla, not a truck.

    Welcome to the site OP.
This truck will grow on you, as it is already. These are awesome trucks and especially having one with low mileage and seems to be well taken care of, it's a keeper.
Enjoy it, and being your father-in-law's, it's even more special to keep it in his honor.
Enjoy the truck, and all the modifications that will make to it if start reading on this site.

And I don't mean just for mods but for the impromptu Home Depot runs as well. Having a truck is nice. IMO every household should have one.

Once you get a truck...... You'll find TONS & TONS of usage for it and you'll never go back.

The best part of all.... the wife likes it. Let her keep it for herself.....and you'll have a truck family forever!!

I've always been a truck person, but I'm the wife....and its my daily driver. I can't imagine getting anything else.

The day I stop buying a truck, is the day I can't physically get inside it or the day I can't physically do any work to lift things into the bed. When I'm ....in my 80's. LOL Or..... when trucks start looking like cars. LOL

Nice truck, and that engine is barely broken in! :)
I've got a little 96 4-banger , 2WD. Looks just like yours but green. They are great trucks.
Give it a few months. Then you will wonder how you got by without it!

Welcome to TW! Having a Truck around is a lot more useful than one might think. Especially, if it's a Tacoma in such good condition! Look through the site, there's ton's of little mods in here for you to do to make it your own. Happy trails...
