I have a 2000 Tundra 4X4 that has been great for me. 198k on it and all I've done is put 4 coils on, 2 at a time at different times. Also, I recently had the alarm system taken out because it kept malfunctioning. Gas mileage isn't so great, if I baby it, I can get 14.5 to 15 all around. May come into some money soon and trying to decide 2 things: 1) which year is best starting in say 05 for both Tacoma and Tundra for 4x4s, and 2) which is a better vehicle for me, Tundra or Tacoma? How's the ride in the Tacomas? I like the ride in my Tundra, although road noise on expressways can be a little loud.

Tacomas ride great. I've taken my grandmother for a ride several times and she's always amazed at how smooth the ride is for a truck. They go fast and get great gas mileage. I'm a bit biased, but I highly recommend a Taco :)

Well I have had both & prefer the Tacoma mainly due to its size for getting into very small, woodsy trailheads.
The mpg was similar (I had a 2011 4.6L & a 2004 4.7 Tundra) to what I get with the Tacoma avg 17-20 mixed driving. Gotta say the smoothest trans I ever had was on my 2004 Tundra crew cab. That truck was silky smooth & quiet w/ decent power. I do miss that on the Taco but both were too big for my needs.
