Any fellow survivalists utilize their truck?

One good idea concerning survival food is to stockpile it but then live off it. In this way it both stays fresh and gets you used to eating it. Having fresh survival rations is important. Also, don't presume that you can live off the land, even if trained and equipped to do so.

I used to carry around a large tin of government-issue stew behind the seat of my truck for "emergency purposes." While going TDY in the Army, I got a chance to have a week off before reporting so I and another soldier decided to canoe the Sabine River from Toledo Bend to Sabine Lake. I'm not sure what we were thinking since we only brought along water, no food. I did have fishing gear and a .22 and tossed in my "emergency" ration just in case. The river was floody and muddy and we couldn't catch a single fish. After a day I popped open the can of stew, only to find it rotten. A day later I saw a chicken that was pecking along on the bank and thought about bagging it but then saw a nearby farmhouse. The next day we got to "civilization" pretty hungry indeed.

Other times I've had better luck living off the land. I went out for a week once on foot but I'd planned the trip during hunting season and the route to hit some stocked ponds. I bagged a turkey and several bass. I also made up a sort of "bread" using milo and cattail roots which wasn't too bad. The turkey was the best -- fresh turkey roasted over a campfire -- yum!

I have 6k+ gals of water sitting in my backyard. Bugging in as well.

I would see how everything unfolds over the next few days and the communication I have with friends nearby. Coordinate a bug out to a place we are familiar with, with friendly people as a group.

The more you know. Hey, maybe the Ebola Zombies are real and they plan on doing a lot of cardio. Google it, kind of frightening.

This is my biggest concern with this fiasco. When it begins spreading throughout the major metropolitan areas of the continental U.S. things are going to quickly run off the rails. Might be a long winter boys. Let's hope not.

    Lol....
If you're going to the store anyway, why not just pick up some matches or a lighter while you're there? :notsure:

I think the whole point of the video is that knowledge is more important than equipment. Think of what would be cleared out of the store first. Few people would think that some coat hangers, macramé cord and spice trays would have any value in a survival situation.

    crazy shit no the less.

Re joining this thread. I will be making a career change in about a month ( BNSF) and will be traveling alot. Flying a lot as well.
I will have a 2 hour commute to Fort Worth then drive or fly to wherever we will be working. 8 days on, 6 days off.
I will be making a small kit of some sort that I can fly with.

I love these containers from cabelas, even my shovel fits, air tight and lockable...
Right now I use 2. 1 Has my emergency equipment and is in the truck at all times and the other I load for our weekend trips... I think I'll load the third as an additional bug out container...

This is something I've wanted to do myself. My EDC bag would make TSA agents shat themselves and then arrest me.

Great recommendation! I've been looking for something where I can keep the stuff that lives in the truck without worrying about the Florida heat and humidity. I imagine two of these guys, packed with a layer of desiccants at the bottom would do just fine. Keep a pair of boots, one or two sets of clothes, gloves, etc. and then have one for my toolbag and other miscellaneous stuff.

    EDIT:

Amazingly, Cabela's is cheaper than Amazon for these.

    EDIT 2:

Here's a link to some smaller ones that are slightly cheaper than the ones on Cabela's. They are also clear, which some may prefer.

    Thanks for sharing!

Now that I've got my ARE shell on, I went ahead and mounted my fire extinguisher in the back with a Quick Fist on the storage compartment door.

Surprisingly, it doesn't shake around too much. I think the Bedmat helps quite a bit.

Sorry for the rapid fire posts...but I finally slid my freebie digital camo LED Maglite in between the console hump and driver seat. I forget where I saw this for the first time, but I love it - it's a perfect fit.

Bought one of these today just in case we need to hole up in the house for a month or two while Ebola kills everyone. And when I go camping/trail riding. :D

Honda makes great generators. Good call!

Also I wouldn't fly right now if you paid me. I'd be interested to see your kit, Zombie Runner, when you get it together.

I've heard good things about these. Super quiet, run only as fast as the load requires and if you need more power, you can put 2 of them in parallel. I've been meaning to get one just like this.
