I bought a recovery strap that is rated for 30,000 lbs. I'm looking for shackles but I can't find any that are above 12,000 lbs. What's the deal? Are the ratings different?

You don't need anything more than that.... Your truck can't even tow that much.

    Did you search for D-rings?

You can go to your local hardware/farm equipment store and find D-rings. They don't have to be anything special.

It depends on what size shackle your looking for... generally, the bigger the shackle the higher WLL. Where I used to work, we built cell phone and high line towers. We used a lot of high rated straps and slings and the shackles we rated just as high but they were bigger shackles

This is a chart directly from Crosby... that's where we got all our high rated shackles at.

The shackle is rated at a WLL or working load limit. The strap is probably rated at a busting or breaking strength.

The way most straps and slings are labeled ( i.e a "30,000lb recovery strap") is by the WLL or Pull Pound Rating and not the breaking strength. Any strap will de-rate over time because of a variety of environmental and stress related reasons so when they rate them, theres always a safety factor.

Also the WLL can change based on the way its used. I strap has a higher rating when basketed then it would when choked or used straight.

An example of the different uses and how the WLL can differ for the same sling
