Every morning when I start my 02 tacoma up, the brakes are really really harsh for a small period of time. If I barely tap on them, they feel as though I'm slamming on them. Any ideas? After about 2-3 mins of driving, it brakes normally,

Grey wire and keyless entry. I like stock.
No input towards your problem or solution, but after I changed the rear shoes on my 01, the brakes went from really sensitive like your's to almost no braking power. I'd love to have them the way they were before but I've bled it three times now and they've firmed up a bit, but not nearly where they were before.

might just be surface rust on the rotors doing it but I saw something about that on tv (gas monkey garage), the guy said the brake booster needs replacing or rebuilding because even though its not leaking vacuum or giving you a soft pedal it can have the plates inside it get out of whack (his terminology) and it puts you into the windshield the first few minutes of driving until things sort themselves out and then it works normal again.

I don't know whats involved but he said he sends them off to be rebuilt because its cheaper then a new one.

take it for whats its worth and its just something I saw on a tv show so who knows if its made up crap just for tv or if its really true, but if everything else checks out and its not surface rust then try a salvage yard brake booster and see if that solves your problem.

Have you had a lot of high-humidity days/nights recently? Humidity can get into the brake area, especially as it is usually pretty hot when you finally park it for the evening. This humidity will collect on the brake drums and rotors, causing VERY minor surface rust that can cause the brakes to feel "grabby" the first couple of applications. Not saying this is what is happening in your case, but it is a possibility if you are in a high-humidity situation.

Have you done anything to your brakes? Did this just start all of a sudden? Years ago I had new pads put on my truck that were matalic and they were real sensitive for the first couple of times I braked. Usually had to drag the brake pedal for a block when I'd leave for work.
