Some shops have computers to re-code your system now. The toyota dealership wanted $150 to reset mine but the local tire shop did them for free when I bought new tires. If I didn't buy new tires, they were going to charge me $50.

Unless they added it back, they stopped putting a sensor in the spare in '09.

A 2012 is too new to have it malfunction and die, or if it did it's under warranty and should be repaired. If it's working properly, it shouldn't be a problem, so I don't understand why you would want to remove it.

    Hi all.

Yes, I would see what caused the problem and get the tire repaired if that was the issue - then :

1 - Adjust all 4 tires to the recomended pressure on the sticker on the drivers door jamb. My '12 doesn't have a sensor on the spare. For my truck it's 30 # times 4.
2 - Reset the TPWS as per the instructions in your owners manual
3 - Adjust the tires up to where you want them. The service bulletin has a graph that is to be followed depending on the tire temp at the time of the reset (whether it has been driven on or not) and the lowest ambient temp. expected compared to the shop temp. This can be anywhere from 0 to near 14 psi.

I run my 51 # max tires at 38 to 40 psi. I check and adjust at least every 2 weeks as it gets very cold here in the winter.

The info above is from Service Bulletin "T-TCI-3598 Tire Inflation Pressure Compensation and Adjustment". I could post up a link if anyone is interested.

    Cheers
    Ray.

Yes, in 07 it could be (likely is) the spare.

Which means that tire store owes you a TPMS sensor.

I have a 11-SR5 and I'm running aftermarket wheels/tires that have no TPMS in them. Any way to disable/shut off the stupid light?
