ac control lights question, right place?(1st gen)

I have a 2003 Tacoma and a bulb went out for the controls. I took it to Autozone and the guy broke the control board the very left side bulb is connected to. I glued it back on and it doesn't work (not that I thought it would) and I looked at the control module and its $100 dollars on ebay. Now, the question I have is can I get 3 3mm leds and wire them from the plug that plugs into the back of the control module and put them in like that? I just got this truck 2 months ago, I only had the truck 2-3 weeks when the guy broke it, and I don't want to do anymore damage. Im trying to find a cheap but good alternative cause no one wants to hire a 16 year old with no experience, or where I have been they haven't.
