Hey everyone. I have had this problem since the day i purchased my tacoma. The tach reads about 200 RPM's high. The previous owner told me it needed a new crank positioning sensor. I have tried researching this all over the place but with little avail  can some one chime in and help me out with this? is the CPS what transmits the engine revolutions to a signal to the tach? any input is appreciated...

If your tach is consistently 200RPM off, I doubt the crank position sensor is the culprit. Usually a bad CPS will give erratic signal, or a jumpy needle. If you have access to a code reader that has data, I would suggest looking at the data and comparing it to the gauge. It could be possible that your gauge is off. Has the cluster had anything done to it? (white face cover, etc) that someone may have removed the needle and not got it back on in the right spot?

I don't think that it has been removed, I do not see any evidence that would lead me to believe it was removed. It still has the stock black cluster. But it is possible... It is just strange because it seems like everything is operating as it should, it just reads high. But i will try and get it on a code reader with data. thanks.
